The Instant Replay in Waltham, Mass is now renting CD's (as well as selling
them). If you belong to their club ($10 per year) your can purchase CD's for
$13.05. Their rental plan is $2 for 3 days or $4 for 7 days. When your rent
a disc, they remove it from the original case, and put in into a plain case.
If you decide to buy the disc after renting it, you get your rental cost
subtracted from the purchase price to you in essance get to field test the
CD. If they do it like they used to do video discs, you get a 20% discount
if you buy a used (ie rented before) CD. They have a fair selection of both
popular and classical discs. It turned out that I was the first person to
rent a CD when I was in there last week. I don't know how long this program
might last, because if people don't treat the rented CD with care they will
be distroyed after a few rentals. Also, I was talking with the owner of
Rockin' Mania in Framingham and he said that they once thought about renting
CD's but found it was illegal. Well all I can say is that I see no difference
between renting video and audio, and they have been renting video for a long
time. I guess we will soon find out.

Where in Waltham is The Instant Replay?

It's at the Totten Pond Road exit off 128.  There's a little shopping center
with a movie house, and a chinese restaurant.  Instant Replays is inside
the "mall."
