108.0. "Beware of this disk..." by NEXUS::ROLLOW () Sun Apr 07 1985 15:30
Polydor has released the "Orignal Soundtrack" version of
"The Empire Strikes Back". It should be called "The Empire
Strikes Out".
1. It's not a CD release of the orignal two record set.
They took what was probably the 10 best known cuts
from the soundtrack, rearranged them (the Main Theme
is in the middle of the disk) and made the CD from
that.
2. It sounds like they took a good copy of the record,
and transfer that to digital tape to make the CD.
Some of the louder brass sections sound fuzzy. The
sort of thing you get on a slightly dirty over-pressed
record. I did an A-B comparsion of the two and except
for the noise on my record they sounded the same.
Fortunately the manager of the store let me return it on the
basis that I didn't like it. "The Empire Strikes Back" on
Varese Sarabande is a MUCH better recording. Plus you get
the "20th Century Fox Fanfare".
