Looking over some old notes I found one where someone asked about the first all digital pop recording. As far as master taping and recording goes the first Pop recording was Ry Cooder's "Bop Till You Drop". Ry has always been a personal favorite with his blues style performances. When he played at a concert with Eric Clapton , Eric had to let him back out on stage because of his guitar playing ability which the crowd keenly picked up on. The master was recorded on 3Ms soundstream system. Recommended, but his style probably won't be for everyone. --Dale (Got it right this time)

What is the date on the Ry Cooder recording? Also, does anyone know when Billy Joel's (all digital) Nylon Curtain album was recorded? It's one of the very few mainstream pop DDD discs. (What a great idea for a new topic! Stay tuned.) -- Ward | |||||

Bop Till You Drop was released in 1979 on Warner Bros. To answer my earlier question about its availability on CD, I noticed a copy at a local audio store last evening. I agree with the original author about this not being for everyone however if you like guitar licks, Ry does it about as well as anyone. |
