87.0. "Article in Scientific American" by BAGELS::ROSENBAUM () Thu Feb 14 1985 11:14

On the technical side..

	In the December, 1984, Sci Am is an article entitled "The
Digital Reproduction of Sound," covering CD's as well as other technologies.
It is at the standard Sci American "layman's level." If you know about
aliasing or CRC's, you probably won't learn much.

	There is microphotograph of the "sight of silence" on a CD - quite
a few "bumps" go into error correcting silence. The bumps are .16 micrometers
high and .6 micrometers wide, by the way.
