83.0. "CD shop in Geneva, Switzerland" by GVA01::BOERS () Tue Feb 05 1985 02:51
For those of you who live in or travel to Geneva, here is a CD shop
you shouldn't miss: The Compact Disc Audio Club (not a club though),
8 Rue Frederic Amiel, tel 45 84 51.
To start with, the ONLY thing they sell are CD's. They have about 1800
different titles in stock. The owner, a professional sound mixer, listens
to all the records,, and evaluates them on background noise and mixing
quality (not on the artistic quality). The results can be found on a sticker
on the back of the CD, giving a score out of six maximum for both.
He has one copy of CD's who score two or lower, to listen to, but he
does not want to sell them. It is nearly impossible to not get into a
discussion about music with him, and he gave me some usefull tips.
(He does not rate von Karajans recordings on DG very high, he accuses him of
severely misusing sound mixing.)
His prices are lower than elsewhere in Geneva (29-32 SF for modern and
34 for classical, 2.7 SF = 1$ at the moment). He keeps a client record,
and after buying 20 disks, one is free.
The shop is open mon-fri in the afternoon, and saturday morning.
Robert.
