There's a new world record record [??]: The longest CD is now 73 minutes
and a few seconds... I don't know whether they only invested in quantity
on this record or also in quality.

[The CD contains piano music by Chopin].

Does anyone know what the opposite world record is (the CD with the shortest
playing time)?

	Shortest: According to a recent publication David Sanborn's "Voyeur" comes in at 29:46. Anyone know of a shorter one? Apparently there are several that clock in at under half an hour.. Worst: Jethro Tull's "Aqualung", to quote.. "Unquestionably, it wins the award for the worst CD ever issued." I'm not familiar with either work... ...Paul

	"World Record" for the longest CD is an interesting concept considering that the medium has a designed-in limit of just under 75 minutes of recording time. Having the record for shortest CD is a bit of a Pyrrhic victory: you may have less music but you'll also have much less sales.

	Don't know which is the shortest, but CBS has just released a popular disc that is about 88 min. long. It is Journey's Captured Live recording.

	...And of course, we could look for the heaviest and the lightest CD's in the world. (All CD's aren't born equal: the more 1's the digitized information has, the more cavities the disc will contain (or is it the other way around?).) I assume you will need a fairly accurate weighing machine to measure the differences from one CD to another.

	Re: .3 Are you sure that they fit 88 minutes of music on one side of one CD? As far as I know, the standard says 75 minutes is the maximum. I have the 72+ minute Beethoven's 9th symphony and the music ends quite close to the end. B.J.

	I had heard touted 75 minutes and 90 minutes as the max, apparently the 90 minutes is correct. Chick Corea and Gary Burton in Concert, Zurich, October 28, 1979 (ECM) comes in at 61:21, by far the longest jazz fusion (or whatever you classify them as) that I have found. -Dave p.s. Someday I will get around to reviewing my discs, I just haven't had the time yet. I like all of the Windham Hill label (I have all of their first release CD's) technically the quality is high (very little background hiss) and I enjoy the music of all the different artists on the label.

	[re .3, .6, .7] Sorry, the capacity of a CD is 74 minutes, just like the capacity of an RP06 pack is 176Mb. You don't have to use it all, but once its full - ITS FULL. Said CD (if it is a CD) is either under said 74 minutes or is a 2 disk set. ..Paul.

	From my CD list: Ludwig van Beethoven Symphony No. 9 in D minor, Opus 125 "Choral" Otmar Suitner conducting Staatspekelle Berlin Denon 38C37-7021 [1982] I like the performance (and listen to it quite often). Both the performance and the recording sound good to me and I would recommend the disk. [Be warned that I do not have either a golden ear or a trained ear.] B.J.
