| Sigh! Makes me wish I had a CDP already.
Lesse, 1963.... that should be just before Clapton joined, unfortunately,
or are there a few later cuts with Clapton? Not that they wouldn't be any
good without him, mind you.
Is the "Who Do You Love?" cut the old Bo Diddley song (also covered by
Tom Rush, George Thorogood, Quicksilver Messenger Service, kinda-sorta
by Warren Zevon, and God knows who else)?

| ERIC CLAPTON WAS THE ORIGINAL GUITARIST, THEN JEFF BECK, THEN JIMMY PAGE.
CLAPTON LEFT BECAUSE HE THOUGHT THE YARDBIRDS WERE TURNING COMMERCIAL, BUT
LOOK WHAT HAPPENED TO HIM.

Rockit records is located next to Daddy's Junky Music on the
Daniel Webster Highway, just south of the Demoulas shopping centre and
before you get to Jordan's Furniture. (JUst before you get into Tyngsboro)

| re:.2
Actually, Clapton was not the first guitarist with the Yardbirds, though
he may have been the first one to record with them. The first guitarist was
Tony "Top" Topman. Clapton, I believe, joined in 1964. My nephew has a
book on the Yardbirds (I should know, I bought it for him for his birthday),
so I'll look up to see when it was that Clapton joined.

49.7 | finally, Rhino releases great Yardbirds material | GUNSTK::MGINGRAS | Roll Over, Chuck Berry! | Fri Nov 13 1987 14:39 | 48 |
| At last; a good sister recording to go with THE YARDBIRDS . LONDON
1963.
I bought a copy of YARDBIRDS GREATEST HITS, VOLUME ONE (1964-1966)
on the Rhino label the other day. This one lives up the Rhino
reputation. This is my first Rhino disc, but I've heard a lot of
good things about them.
The disc?: contains 18 selections (listed below). It is not digitally
remastered, but has some kind of obscure message "Digitally transferred
from the original master tapes". I don't know how it was done,
but it was done well. I compared these to the original versions
on the Epic label and found them (the disc)to be much clearer with
a minimum of hiss. The sound is less compressed and for many of
the songs I thought I could clearly hear how the recording hall
affected the sound.
I believe all the cuts are mono but are much fuller than the vinyl
I have. The package also comes with some good liner notes which
talk about the band and give background on each cut.
Songs included are:
For Your Love
Putty (In Your Hands)
Evil Hearted You
Still I'm Sad
You're a Better Man Than I
Shapes of Things
Heart Full of Soul
Good Morning Little School Girl
I ain't Done Wrong
I'm A Man
The Train Kept A-Rollin'
A Certain Girl
I Ain't Got You
I'm not Talking
I Wish You Would
Too Much Monkey Business
Got Love If You Want It
Smokestack Lightning
Jimmy Page is not on this disc. The music he participated in will
be on VOLUME II. This disc is excellent and recommended for lovers
of early psychedelic music and British Blues fans (sorry Cruiser).
