43.0. "CD review (again!)" by MILRAT::MARRA () Fri Nov 09 1984 14:08

	I want to try this again...

	If I ever get my player (ugh!!) /when i do.....

	I've noticed that some people say that they have 50 - 80 discs
	in there library. Well What I'd like to know is which ones are good,
	which ones are bad and what not...

	Are some a MUST to own and some (like the Air supply one mentioned)
	ones to absolutely stay away from. For 15 bucks i'd expect to get
	a recording that is better than an "Audiophile Master." Of which I
	own about forty of.

	And are some much better than the Masters..

  For fifteen bucks you get the same as you do for eigth bucks in vinyl;
the chance to test drive the album.

Well Dave,
 I told you to stop up any time and you could listen on my system.

 Since current distribution causes an album to sound the same (approx.) on
either vinyl or cd the big diffrence is more of what isn't suppose to be there.
The cd doesn't have the sizzle, pop, or wow that a vinyl has (supposedly) so
the only reason to get a cd player now is that you play your albums often
and don't want them to wear down.
 When the record companies get all disks to sound sonically excellent then
cd's will really be worth it as a media. I got my cd player because of the
record wear factor. If I find a great album then all the better.

 Has anyone seen any cd's out on the ECM label? I used to get jazz albums on
that label and could generally count on a good performance from the album
even if I had not heard the album group before.

I have seen Pat Metheny, Chic Corea, Al Jareau, Ect. on ECM CD's. Strawberries,
and the record shop in the Burlington Mall have a good selection of them. ( I
have only seen them in the Chelmsford Strawberries). As Falls Wichita by
Metheny is excellent!
