| They're located on Route 9, in Framingham, in the Tropic Isle Plaza.
It's on the south side on Route 9. There's a big (yellow?) sign that
identifies Tropic Isle Plaza, and Rock 'n Mania is located underground
next to the diver's supply store.

P.S. They have Sunday hours (12:00-5:00). Also, they give you a little card,
and they punch out a hole for every disc you buy. When you buy 11 discs
there, you get a $7 credit toward your twelfth disc.

| I finally made it to Rock 'N' Mania this weekend, after hearing about it for
months. Well, I was NOT impressed. Specifically,
- They had a fair sized collection, but not as good as the Lechmere, or
Good Vibrations, both less than a mile away.
- The CD's were laid out in glass counter-cases, which made it very
difficult to browse the titles.
- Their prices were 2-3 dollars higher than most of the other places
I've looked in, including the Lechmere and Good Vibrations.
Maybe this place took an early lead in stocking CDs, but they certainly
haven't kept up.
So far the best, for selection and price, is the Crazy Eddie at 6th Ave. and
8th St. in New York City.

| Hmmm... I've found the selection at Rock'n'Mania to be much better than the
one in Lechmere *or* Good Vibrations. On the other hand, it depends on what
you're looking for. If it's Pop/Rock, than R'n'M is a better place to go,
but they don't have a whole lot of jazz (Jeff Beck and Pat Metheny is about
it) or show tunes (except for Pop/Rock-music movie soundtracks). Don't even
think about classical there. Lechmere has a greater variety, but I prefer
the Pop/Rock selection at R'n'M.
As for prices, well, yes, they're a bit higher (generally about a
buck --- the "standard" price for a Pop/Rock CD at Lechmere is $15.99, at
R'n'M, about $16.99 (imports are higher)). On the other hand, R'n'M also
gives you a punch card to keep track of your CD purchases. After buying 11
CD's, you can get $7 off the next one (and *that* one counts as your first
purchase on your next card), so you're getting a bit of a discount there
(my brain is too tired to calculate the percentage right now).

| Mentioning Lechmere, the Framingham store has DOUBLED the size of their CD
section within the last few weeks! The only "local" store I know of which has
more now is Electric Gramaphone in Sudbury which has only classicals.

| Well I stopped by Crazy Eddies and I was not impressed.
Stores that have impressed me were in Tokyo and Dusseldorf; in the latter
store most CD's were DM28, about $8.75 at the time. Maybe we can set up
an exchange with their local DEC offices.. (don't know what we could send them)
Don't mean to be a spoilsport but it seems that the average European record
store (especially German) makes American stores look like Top 40 outlets.
Now how many CD's do I hafta buy to make the airfare worthwhile?

| Use mail order! Works great from London stores - don't know about
Germany. The dollar is dropping, so prices are going up just now.
CD's cost just under 10 pounds in London (including air-mail shipping
anywhere in the world), and the pound is currently at $1.24.

| Didn't know if I should start a new note or not, but at least this is on
the subject of Rock'n Mania.
In some other note it was rumorred that their discount card was discontinued,
and you better work fast to fill it up. But, I couldn't find that note, and
I'm sure your NOTARY (or whatever) will find this one.
I was just by yesterday (14-Dec-1985) to buy a CD, and personally asked the
manager about the discount card. Heres the story:
He said "Any card in the field will be honored; we just aren't giving out
new ones anymore". So, that means you have up to your expiration date (1
year from the first purchase; its on the card), to fill it up and get the
discount. So, no hurry ... Their selection seems to be increasing as well.
I saw several CSN discs not listed in one of the major CD mail order houses.
Don't know if they are new CD releases (of old recordings), or what, but
they seem to be keeping up with the lastest pop releases.

| I've heard some rumors about discounts at Rock'n'Mania for DEC employees.
Does anyone have any details?
