| One of the reasons may be the location of GOLD:: (wherever it is).
It seems to take FOREVER for NOTES to access this file. I often give
up and try later.
As a happy SHELF user, I see no reason to merge this file with the
AUDIO file.

| GOLD:: is located in MRO2 (Marlboro, MA). I originally set up this
notes file to try to stimulate material that I could publish in the
CD Review, but I haven't had many takers. I will be publishing another
issue, I have just been waiting for weather that will keep me indoors
long enough to do it and the time to do it.
So please, send in those reviews. If you have bought a player, say
what you like and don't like about it. Even send me lists of titles
that you would classify in the following catagories: excellent, good,
fair, bad, rating the music and mastering separately. Also short
selections (< 40 mins) vs. long selections (> 50 minutes) so people
can get an idea of where to get more music for the buck.

| As an unhappy European noter, I would prefer having all notesfiles in
Munich...
I was just wondering how little activity is going on in this file. After
some initial flaming it's been quiet... I think either everybody gave
up the idea of buying a CD player, or they bought one and are completely happy
with it...

| The software catalog is there: the (German) Audio magazine publishes one.

| I believe that 20.5 was refering to "selection" rather than the strict
interpretation of "catalog". We Americans have a way of saying what we
do not mean.

| Maybe you're right... the selection is quite miserable if you compare it
to vinyl discs. I haven't seen any recent figures, I would assume there should
be about 2000 CDs by now; the problem is you won't find them you have to go
to several shops. Some CDs I know of were pressed in ridiculously low
quantities (the lowes I know was 200).

| I'm still waiting for them to 'fix' the problems with CD. If I can
go in and hear differences in players, then it isn't any better than
analog (except for the difference in noise). CD will be the way I go
only when the majority of the problems are fixed.

| So, Bob, what problems are you still waiting for? I recently purchased a car
CD player. I'm not sure if I'm too deaf to hear the problems, or I just have
low standards, but the music quality pleases me to no end.
Some time has elapsed since most of the notes in this file, but I find it
amazing that so much could be resolved in that much time?
