16.0. "More free CD's" by XENON::MUNYAN () Mon Mar 19 1984 18:03

	If you look on the inside cover of this month's Stero Review
	Techniques is offering 5 free CD's with the purchase any of the
	following units:

		SLP-10
		SLP-8
		SLP-7

	I've seen the SLP-8 and the SLP-10 and think that it's about a toss
	up for features... the SLP-10 is made out of cast alunimum whereas
	some of the parts on the SLP-8 are plastic... the 8 is suppose to
	have newer guts which make it sound as good or better for less money.

	Anyone heard anything about the SLP-9 it seems to be missing ...
	everyone I've talked to says it doesn't exist and is expecting
	something that does oversampling like the Yahmaha unit but doesn't
	have any dates. I've been very impressed with the programmability
	of the 8 and 10 does anyone have any perils of wisdom about these
	machines (good or bad) ... Personally I've only heard good about the
	10 unit and the 8 is new so I havn't heard anything except what a
	friend told me about the features.

I've heard complaints about excessive mechanical noise (by the laser focusing
system) on SLP-7 and 8. Otherwise they should be ok (whether the mechanical
noise is disturbing dpeneds of course where the machine is located).
16.2Technics SLP500 QUESTIONSMEGIT::BROUILLETTEMike BrouilletteTue Feb 17 1987 12:424
    Can anyone tell me anything about the Technics SLP500?
    Is it worth getting all the bells and whistles?

    Mike,
    	I have the Technics SLP300. The basic difference that I could
    see was that the 500 had a "Keypad" on the unit (both have remote
    control keypads). The 500 also had an individual volume control
    for headphones which didn't seem of value to me because I listen
    through the amp.
    	The keypad is good in that it allows you to program the tracks
    in any order by entering the track number (as opposed to using the
    skip forward/backward button). I use my remote control to do this
    when I am making my tapes for the car. And most of the time when
    I am "just listening" to music, I simply push the "Play" button
    and let it go. Besides, the money I saved bought a lot of CDs.
