I saw a CBS compact disk the other day with the inscription "Digital master, analog recording". Now, what is that supposed to mean?

Theoretically it could mean one of two things: 1) The music was originally mastered on an analog medium, hence it was necessary to make a digital master for transcribing to CD. 2) The music was digitally mastered, but due to a studio's unwillingness to cooperate with the CD manufacter in providing the original digital master, the master was taken from an analog source. I believe that 1) is the case in point as it covers 2) as well. -Dave | |||||

Pretty sneaky on the part of CBS. Well, I will be safe with Telarc, I guess. It pays to check the label carefully for weasel-words like this. |
