6.0. "CD Suppliers" by GOLD::WEAVER () Thu Dec 29 1983 23:34

Has anyone found any other sources of CD's and players other than
those I have in the "CD Review". I understand the Music Box in
Welsley carries at least the Sony, does anyone have any pricing or
information on what labels they carry. How about Waltham Camera
and Stereo or any other shops? I would also be interested in pricing
over in Europe to know how much more we end up paying.

The prices here in Germany are still moving down. Very few of the players
sell for more than about $ 550. The best offer I've seen so far was the Akai
player (Kyocera) for $360. The Dual player (same as Hitachi DA-10) sells for
$500, Sanyo DAD-8 for $360. The Kyocera player is also sold as Rotel for
$360, mail order only. (If you want a "Micro Seiki" label on it, you are
allowed to pay over $800 for the same thing). Most other models are typically
around $500, but if you have a close look in the newspapers you can find
something for about $400 almost every week.

I noticed that Sears at the Natick Mall now has the new Sears Player in stock
and on sale for $499 (reg $599). It is a front-loading model and VERY compact.
If you look at the loading door, you will see how it might be possible to fit
a CD in a car. The loading door is probably half as high as the Sony's, and
is considerably more quiet loading. I didn't get a chance to hear how it
performs.

Who manufactures the Sears?

I have been told that Sanyo Manufactures the Sears unit.

Is the NAD player available in U.S. yet? I know it is available in Finland
for 2995 Finnish Marks, which amounts to roughly $500. Comparing to other
prices in Finland, it should probably sell for something like $350 here, but
I haven't seen it in Germany yet.

I haven't heard anything about the NAD playere here yet.

I currently own the 5330, and couldn't be happier with it. It think
it sells for around $350. Features include "skip", "scan", "pause",
    and "repeat".
