1.1CD's are Copyrighted.LDP::WEAVERLaboratory Data ProductsMon Nov 24 1986 18:509
    DO NOT propose copying of any copyrighted material in this
    conference. There are federal laws against such actions and I
    do not wish to be held accountable.

    				     		-Dave (the moderator)

    p.s. If anyone ever sees any such notes entered in this conference,
    please send me mail immediately indicating the note number so that
    I may take appropriate action. Thank you.
1.2Purpose of this ConferenceLDP::WEAVERLaboratory Data ProductsMon Nov 24 1986 18:5318
This NOTES file is intended for discussion of CD's as audio products.

I would like to see some reviews of CD titles as well as players people
may have tested. Of course, technical discussions of the CD format are
welcome as well. This is meant to be an open forum where any aspect of
CD audio may be discussed, including the impact of the wide dynamic
on other stereo components.

Please keep discussions on track by using WRITE rather than REPLY to enter
new notes on new subjects. If you are thinking of replying to a note,
re-read the base note if you aren't sure of what it was (".0" will allow
you to reread the base note if you are using VNOTES or NOTES11). Try to
keep replies in context with the original author's basenote.

Also, please do not reply to this note so I can keep it up-to-date.

	    					Thanks,
	   					-Dave (the moderator)
1.3Access RestrictionsLDP::WEAVERLaboratory Data ProductsMon Nov 24 1986 19:0610
    This file should not be accessed from 9AM-noon and 1PM-5PM Eastern
    time, Monday through Friday. This is a non-work related conference
    and there are people trying to do real work on the cluster that
    contains this conference. Accessing this conference can put a drain on
    network resources known as logical links, and should therefore not
    be done during the standard working hours for this cluster. Failure
    to comply may result in the inadvertent breaking of logical links
    during working hours, if the system manager sees fit to do so.

1.4Hints on using VAXNotes...LDP::WEAVERLaboratory Data ProductsMon Nov 24 1986 19:2230
    A few notes about using VAXnotes:

    1) If you enter a note or reply that isn't quite right, you can
       type DELETE, followed by WRITE/LAST or REPLY/LAST. You will
       then be able to correct the note and enter it again.
    2) Stick to the subject of the base note, and use WRITE rather than
       REPLY if you want to make a significant deviation from the topic
       being discussed. If you are no longer sure what the topic was,
       re-read the base note by typing ".0" and see if you reply fits
       givin the context of that note.
    3) SEND/AUTHOR will allow you to send the author of a note a private
       message that won't be entered into the conference. If you see
       a reply to a note that should have been a separate note, please
       use SEND/AUTHOR to tell the author your feelings. If enough
       people agree, I am sure that the author will get tired of all
       the mail and create a new note for the topic.
    4) SEND/AUTHOR should also be used when the author of a note is
       offering literature, and you would like to get in the act. Please
       don't clutter up the file with "I would like to get a copy..."
       types of replies. Use SEND/AUTHOR instead.

    I want to encourage the contributers to this conference to police
    themselves, as I don't have the time to spend policing this conference.
    I think this conference serves a useful purpose, and I want it to
    remain that way, but it can only happen with the cooperation of
    all of the contributers. For the most part everyone has been doing
    a good job, please keep it up.

    							Thank you,
    				  			-Dave
1.5Will You Adopt This Notes Conference?VLNVAX::KARLSONOnly 177 shopping days until Xmas!Wed Jul 01 1987 10:0718

    Unfortunately, I have to relinquish the reigns of the CD notesfile
    to someone else. Due to a restructuring of the resource known as
    CERBUS, it is no longer possible for the CD notesfile to be housed
    here.

    So if you are willing to take this notesfile over, please let me
    know and we'll set up the arrangements for it's moving. If no new
    home is found within one week (by the end of work [17:00] on Friday
    June 10th), I will have to close the notesfile and archive it until
    such time as someone is willing to take it over.

    For any interested people, send mail to GNUVAX::KARLSON.

    The file is currently 13k blocks (and some change big), and there
    are quite a few network accesses generated.

1.6New home for CD NotesJAWS::PELKEYYou bought a Guitar to Punish ur ma.Tue Jul 21 1987 11:3316
    	[This note has been relocated.]

    Welcome to the new home of C.D. notes. It was brought to my
    attention that this notes filed needed a home. I've not
    participated in C.D. notes for awhile, but I thought it'd
    be fun to hold this conference on JAWS.

    Your cooperation in following the previous policies of this notes
    file will be appreciated. Access times, and copyright issues are
    still expected to be observed on this node.

    Thanks and have fun.

1.7Welcome back my friends to the show that...COOKIE::ROLLOWAttack of the Killer Mutant MondayThu Nov 12 1987 14:187
    Welcome to another new home for the CD conference. The COOKIE
    cluster is in Colorado Springs (CXO1). Hopefully the access
    hours to the conference will remain unrestricted. Scheduled
    downtime will be announced in this note.

1.9Can you get here from there?COOKIE::ROLLOWBe Bad or Be Management.Thu Apr 14 1988 15:565
    If you're having trouble accessing this conference please send
    me mail at NABETH::ALAN. Include the output of a SHOW ERROR
    and the time when the error occured. Some parts of the network
    may be having trouble accessing CXO, but being local I'd never
    notice it.
1.10COOKIE::ROLLOWI'm free! I'm free!Mon Oct 24 1988 11:3222
	Recently, I got a letter of complaint about a note in this
	conference and as moderator was asked to delete it. The
	biggest points in the complaint where:

		1. The note didn't pertain to Compact Discs.

		2. The author of the note stood to make money
		    from the note.

	To be precise, the author of the note was trying to sell tickets
	to a concert. The first was almost certainly true. The second
	required a judgement call on my part. If he sold the tickets for
	his original cost then no personal gain was involved.

	I have decided that the simplest way to handle this is to ask
	that you NOT use this conference to advertise the fact that you
	have something to sell. That includes the sale of discs and CD
	players.

	Unless there is an over-riding corporate Policy and Procedure
	about this, it should not be considered carved in stone. If you
	want to have an open discussion on it, please start a note on it.
1.11Almost as old as CDs themselves...COOKIE::ROLLOWAlign Follow - Creative spelling strikes again.Wed Feb 08 1989 16:556
	Because of it's size and some space problems on the hosting
	disk this version of the CD conference will be archived and
	a new conference started on February 14th, some time after
	8:00 p.m. MST. I'll try to keep the old conference in the
	same place for a couple weeks after the switch, but then
	it will probably be moved elsewhere.

	please let send mail at nabeth::alan. I'd to make the new
	conference COOKIE::CD and the old one COOKIE::CD_V1.
