I know I read in some more recent thread about recent PS price drop, but can't
remember where. Oh well ;^)
What do Lechmere, Toy-R-Us, Service Merchandise, BJ's Wholesale, BABAGES,
Electronic Boutique and KayBee Toys all have in common?
THEY HAVE ALL BEEN SOLD OUT OF PS's FOR ABOUT THREE WEEKS BECAUSE OF THE LAST
PRICE DROP!!!
Man I am bummed, I got games, I got mem carts, I got spare controllers all for
my B'day this past weekend. And I also got a big fat RAINCHECK (grrrrr) on the
base unit.
My wife has been looking, I went looking, NO PS's to be found in New England!
I have all the above store also check their other stores, no luck, no ETA.
Such is life.
Off to search some more.
Roger.

| Wow, that's incredible! You can't find one anywhere? No ETA?
I can't believe Sony wasn't prepared to meet the demand! Maybe they
didn't know it would be such a hot item...

Well I've been digesting this and I can only figure out 3 scenarios
a) They miss-calculated the sales would draw such a demand with a $50 price drop
and had low inventory to supply the demand. (Kinda unlikly as SONY is no slouch
in the marketing dept).
b) Price fixing. Knowingly stock a low amount of units then drop the price thus
forcing SEGA and Nintendo to follow suit, losing their margin on a larger
inventory of on hand units. Then bring the price back up to $199 when the
feeding frenzy is high and no more N64's or Saturn's are on the street ;^) Nasty.
c) Sell off inventory of current model of PSX'x and after everybody is hungry,
release the "black" PSX at $300.
sigh... I can't figure which is the best..

| re: -1
b) seems like a bad choice... if they drop the price knowing that they have
a low amount in stock and won't be able to supply the newly priced systems,
then people are going to buy N64's and Saturns instead, if they can't find
any playstations. Many gamers are going to go to the competition if they
can't find any Playstations when they want one!
Also Why would Nintendo and Sega drop *THEIR* price when there aren't any
Playstations in stock for people to buy?!
>Then bring the price back up to $199 when the
>feeding frenzy is high and no more N64's or Saturn's are on the street
Bring the price back up to $199? That's insane! Nobody will buy them!
Especially because they were just $150, and N64 is also $150 now, and I'm
sure Sega will be dropping their price soon too. ...probably shortly after
that $35 rebate coupon expires...

That just my rambling of thoughts ;^)
Funny though, it was just the beginning of march when Nintendo said "we do not
plan on dropping our price as we still have plenty of sales at the current
price", then a couple of weeks later, $149.
Rumor on the internet says SEGA may drop to $99 before long but SEGA says "we do
not plan on dropping our price as we still have plenty of sales at the current
price and the 3 free games is still abetter deal than the PSX" ;^)
If anybody see a new (not used) PSX in NE area, drop me a note
roger.
