958.0. "DECrouter 250 => WANrouter 250" by SCASS1::DAVIES (Mark, NPB Sales, Dallas,TX) Wed Jan 29 1997 23:57

    My customer has 8 DECrouter 250s. He wants to run TCP/IP on them. Can
    he do this by just upgrading the software to WANrouter 250 software,
    part #QL-GZZA9-AA?

    Thanks,

    Mark

Yup, no problem, *provided* the firmware is correct:

	The firmware does identify itself as a DECrouter, not WANrouter.
	However:

	We had a similar problem in a previous CLD. This is not a revision
	level that supports WANrouter software. The latest version is
	X6.5.3.

Hi Mark,

According to Walter, version X6.5.3 is the only supported version. You
might find that earlier revisions work ok, but X6.5.3 is the one with the
latest fixes - we had a problem last year where the box would not load over
a serial line and (more importantly) would not dump correctly.

958.4How to upgrade...SCASS1::DAVIESMark, NPB Sales, Dallas,TXFri Jan 31 1997 14:387
    If these guys do not have X6.5.3 firmware on their DECrouter 250s, can
    they be upgraded to this level? If yes, how do I do this?

    Thanks,

	Unfortunately, there is no formal upgrade process for the firmware.
	Also, the DR250 is likely to be retired in the near future.

	The upgrade path for the WANrouter products is intended to be
	the RouteAbout family of routers (RA90/900).

958.6Remote Firmware level access?SCASS1::DAVIESMark, NPB Sales, Dallas,TXMon Feb 10 1997 15:588
    Some of these folks DECrouter 250s are remote. Is there a way to
    ascertain the Firmware Level without rebooting the systems, ie, from a
    network management station?

    Thanks,

 	No, you have the "catch" the console output while the box is
	booting.
