| Sorry Matt,
I can't help you on this one. Never heard of them. Who do they
sound like. BTW, did you buy the Dodgy Album. You can give it a listen
too in Virgin.
Ian.

| Hard to explain what they sound like really. Some of the music mags are
acclaiming them as the obvious next big thing. I suppose I'll just have to go
out and buy their EP.
As for Dodgy, no I haven't bought it yet, as I had a very busy weekend.
However, I spotted a review of the album in a Q magazine I had, and it confirmed
your description of it. I'll probably buy it next week.

| As far as I know, Ash have 3 EPs out, the first one I can't remember
the title of, something with 'Jack' in it, I believe. I've never heard it
actually. The second is called 'Petrol' and is excellent & energetic
3-minute pop. The third is called 'Uncle Pat', a rather disappointing
Dodgy-style (**LINK**) sort-of ballad.
And a mini-LP has been released last week or the week before.

| Bought "Trailer" by Ash last week. Lovely stuff. Its only half an hour's
worth, but it was only (!) a tenner. Its a mishmash of styles, but they're all
things I like to certain extents. There's quite a bit of th' Faith Healers,
rather a lot of Weddoes, bits of your standard Nirvana/Pixies-type
quiet-Loud-quiet stuff. I s'pose I'll stick a review in once I'm more familiar
with it.
It's certainly worth a listen to.

Phew! what a relief, I thought I'd bought a dud here!
Based purely on the comments in here and hearing what I believed to be
their 'new' single on the radio the previous weekend (I agree it
sounded very much like The W*dding Pre$ent ;-) I bought 'Trailer' on
Saturday.
Having checked the singles section before diciding between the single
(4.99) and the album (9.99, no contest), I assumed 'Uncle Pat' was the
'latest single' that I had heard the previous week, so I selected this
track and thought "Hmmm, this is not what I thought it was..."; the girlie
grimaced and insisted on it immediately being replaced with Portishead.
Whilst looking at the insert, I thought maybe this is a different 'Ash' to
the one I'd read about in here/heard on the radio and that I'd bought
an iffy american suicide-thrash-death-metal tenners-worth of tosh
instead. Couldn't get the girlie to take Portishead off for the
remainder of the weekend and so I'm looking forward to doing it justice
when I get back to the UK on Friday...
Steve.

| What's all this 'the girlie' then?! Presumably she's not a reader of this
conference?!

Mr PC
She doesn't object to being referred to as 'the girlie', she certainly
prefers it to 'the daft bint' or 'me chick' ;-)
BTW, I never object to a bit of correction, political or otherwise.

| Apparently, Dave Gedge (Weddoes) produced some ASH tracks. So, maybe my
likening some of their sound to the mighty Wedds wasn't as foolhardy as Steve
insinuated. Aha!

Matt,
Bah! I'd never insinuate anything about you (should that be baaa?! ;-)
Having listened to all twenty-four-and-a-half minutes of 'Trailer'
several times now I'd give it a 7/10. There are a couple of cracking
tracks and a couple of duff ones, 'Jack names the planets' (?) and the
Weddoes-sound-alike one stand out IMO.
As I never fill in the index cards on tapes I always refer to tracks as
'number 4, 7, etc.', 'the one with the bit that goes...' or 'the one that
sounds like...'. Gone are the days when I'd have memorised all the
lyrics by the third listen!

| "Girl from Mars"
Bloody brilliant. Amazingly, the kiddies seem to have latched onto it, and
it's gone in the top 40 at no. 11, I think.

If you like Girl From Mars you'll love Kung Fu.
I think former is at number 8, but that was in John Menzies at 8.45 this am,
so I could be mistaken.
