1205.0. "Nik Kershaw" by CHEFS::HARRISR (Goosenargh!) Tue Jan 25 1994 13:34

A long time ago, well 12 years, a young man called Nik Kershaw came
onto the music scene. As a fan I collected all his singles, 12"'s and
lp's. There were certain tracks, (mainly b sides) that were excellent,
but I feared that I would never hear them on my cd player. well I was
wrong. There are two compilation cd's by Nik Kershaw on the market at
the moment. Both are under 7, and are exceptional value for anyone who
enjoyed his music throughout the eighties. The cd's are titled, "the
best of Nik Kershaw" and "wouldn't it be good". The first should not be
confused with the greatest hits compilation which sells at a regular
price (ie 5 too much) and contains only the singles. The first cd has
eighteen tracks, which consist of a couple of 12" remixes, early b
sides, single releases and a couple of album tracks. The second, which
in my oppinion is not quite as good, but still an excellent cd has 14
tracks, which are either singles or album tracks. These coupled with
the albums: Human Racing, The Riddle, Radio Musicola, The Works, and
The greatest his of, just about cover the music of 'the big K'.

    Rich.

p.s. A side track here. Nik Kershaw auditioned for Deep Purple in 1974.

He can't have been that young in 1982 if he was old enough to audition
for Deep Purple in '74, can he?

1205.6Memories Are Made Of This !!KIRKTN::WATSONTMon Jan 31 1994 18:3918

Nice to hear about Nik again! The band I played in during the early
`80`s signed to MCA Records the same time as Nik and subsequently we joined
him for part of the tour set up to promote his first l.p ( and our second
single! ).
Interesting that his compilations are not on MCA - suspect MCA`s
rights have elapsed enabling him to negotiate a reissue deal?
He is a very under-rated guitar player possibly because he admitted
to being more into songwriting than being a guitar hero, and also due to his
being stuck with that `pretty boy` image.Indeed if I recall correctly he
was somewhat bemused by the emphasis put on his looks rather than his music.
Mind you 1500 or so screaming girls can`t be wrong...;-) ;-) ;-)

				Ah memories!!!

The best of Cd was under special licence from MCA. The other I'm not
sure. The wouldn't it be good Cd can be bought in Most large Asda
stores if you look in the cheapie section.

I was at a Nik Kershaw concert in 87, at the Colsten Hall, in Bristol.
There were as many blokes as girlies there.

I'll put them in this afternoon. By the way, the person who toured
with Nik Kershaw may be interested to know that I found a video of Nik
Kershaw at the Hammersmith Odeon in 1984. It doesnt feature the support
    band though :-(

    Rich.

Oh yes, it also cost me 2.99 :-)

    The words are,

    I got it bad
You don't know how bad I got it
    You got it easy
You don't know when you got it good
    It's getting harder
Just keeping life and soul together
    I'm sick of fighting
Even though I know I should
    The cold is biting
Through each and every nerve and fibre
    My broken spirit
    Is frozen to the core
Don't wanna be here no more

Wouldn't it be good to be in your shoes
Even if it was for just one day
And wouldn't it be good if we could wish ourselves away
Wouldn't it be good to be on your side
The grass is always greener over there
Wouldn't it be good if we could live without a care

    You must be joking
You don't know a thing about it
    You've got no problem
I'd stay right there if I were you
    I got it harder
You couldn't dream how hard I got it
Stay out of my shoes if you know what's good for you
    The heat is stifling
Burning me up from the inside
    The sweat is coming
    Through each and every pore
Don't wanna be here no more

    Repeat chorus.

Actually, it was in a shop in Bristol that calls itself 2 million
units to sell. Sad huh ? It speciallizes in dodgy tapes ie latest
albums at 6.99, but the cover appears to be in arabic etc. They have a
rather extensive video section that seems to be ex rental. Where are
you based, as I can let you borrow it for a bit if you are in Reading
    now and then ?

    Rich.
