1171.0. "FLUKE" by KRAKAR::WARWICK (Can't you just... ?) Thu Aug 05 1993 18:04

Fluke are a sort of concept-dance-music-band, perhaps a bit like The
Orb in their organisation. They do production work and remixes, as well
as releasing their own material. Their songs are generally rather
    spacey synth. based dance tracks.

I bought their mini-live album "Out: In Essence" last year, and I've
recently picked up their original mini-album, "The Techno Rose of
Blighty" which contains a couple of the tracks on the live album. They
also have an excellent track on Volume 6, which is very typical of
them. In the write-up in V6, it says that "Techno Rose" is supposed to
be re-released with some extra material this year, and a new album is
also due. They've also recorded a couple of Peel sessions, which I
    don't think have been released.

I think Rod Macfadyen should definitely rush out and buy something by
    them ASAP.

I have a Fluke track on a Creation Dance compilation, and one album on
tape. Dashed good stuff it is too.

Fluke have a new single out, called something like "Make mine a 99".
It's a bit more hyped up than some of their earlier stuff, and the
rhythm track sounds a bit like Kraftwerk (no bad thing, for us
Kraftwerk fans). The single has a lot of mixes on it, all with
    ice-cream-oriented names.

I actually heard the single on Anne Nightingale's R1 program last night
while driving home from up north. I only listen to this when I happen
to be in the car at the time, and last night's was a really excellent
driving show. She always seems to put in some interesting oldies, and
last night Jewel(Duel?) by Propaganda went down particularly well,
excessive volume having to stand in for decent sound quality on my
    car's crap stereo.

I've heard the single too, on Gary Crowley's GLR show yesterday, and I
like it a lot too. I'm definitely starting to show an interest in this
    kind of sound.

I went into town at lunchtime, and Green River Records said that the
single is not out for 2 weeks, although they have a promo copy of it.
It's actually called "Groovy Feeling". I suppose "Make mine a 99" must
    be one of the mixes.
