| Surely to most sick making was that traibute to Carl Perkins which had
all those people fawning over him in orgasmic delight.
No - hold on...... there was a Chet Atkins tribute where Atkins sang a
song about his old man and you could see the base player in the back
wiping away a tear.
This wasn't TV to do the ironing to, it was TV to throw up over.
Did nothing for the reputation of Parkins or Atkins IMHO.
By the way - was it not a trifle bizarre to have Roy Orbison in a
tribute to Ricky Nelson. Perhaps he just sat there :-)

| I have a suspicion that the programme was made a couple of years back,
Andy. Mind you, old Roy wasn't looking too healthy.

Just to differ on two points made.....
1 - I had *never* rated Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons (other than
admitting the fact that they'd done some good pop records) until the
other month when I saw a recording of some show they'd done recently. I
was expecting a group of passable singers with backing band or at most
token instruments in hand. What I saw was superlative singing (eg their
accapella section) and extremely competent bass, guitar and drums. On
the whole I came away with a totaly different view of them than I'd had
50 minutes before. True professionals.
2 - Are you talking about the Carl Perkins "Rockabilly Session" with
Eric, Ringo, George, Dave Edmunds etc etc Andy? If so then I can only
partly agree. Yes, it was a bit treacly. However it struck me what a
*nice* guy CP was and I wouldn't mind betting those tears in the
outtake at the end were genuine. However, disregarding that, I thought
that was a brilliant show with some mean rocakabilly guitar being
played. Also, plenty of atmosphere. Must have been brilliant to be
there.

I have to agree Richard - some great guitar playing.... and we see too
little of that on the box as it is.
