1144.1 | Blur play Reading | RDGENG::CROOK | in squares of organised history | Tue May 11 1993 14:15 | 24 |
| ..since you're in Geneva, this is just going to irritate you:
Blur are playing in Reading (saw the new posters on the way to work this
morning) in May/June at one of the 'clubs'
Neal.

-< new blur single >-
Just heard blur's new single on couleur 3 ( the only station to listen to in
Geneva area ). It's another bandwagon song, kind of early '70's sounding thing.
Last I heard they were the new Pink Floyd, when there was a kind of pyschedelic
bandwagon rolling around.
Having said that tho' it's not that bad, and probably grows on you.
which reminds me, I thought the Yeastie Girls thing was called 'your turn now'
Also in the same vein (sick) there's the song about a detachable penis ...

| Oh dear. I didn't mean to start a new topic. Silly me. I really intended to reply
to the singles review note, but since there isn't a blur note, then ....
They play in Suisse somewhere on 19th May, but I won't be going to see them there
either, 'cos I'm off to the S. of France for a long weekend lay-about (hope I
don't get attack by jellyfish again). Anyway seen them twice before and didn't
like them that much.

were dreadful -

| Ive got both Leisure and the new one ..is it called "Modern life is
Rubbish" ??. I really like Leisure, but the jury remains out on the
2nd one..2 more plays should determine whether its a keeper or a
swapper.

| Heard a track last night off of Modern Life - it was very "early 70's"
- I thought at first it was Bowie then Suede then realised it was Blur
- it was very good...............

| Heard some bits off it on the radio, probably about four or five
tracks. They are getting better all the time, I'll definitely be
investigating this one further.
Saw them last year at the Heineken Festival in Nottingham, they were
dead good.
Going by what I've heard, I'll give it an NME-style (8).

with the 'buy two for a tenner each' sale at hmv, i bought "modern
life is rubbish" and "parklife", and have to say that after playing
both, that parklife is miles better...with stand out tracks, 'jubilee'
'trouble at the message centre' 'badhead' and the title
track....actually practically all the songs are good, i just can't
remember the names.

1144.10 | More on Parklife | FORTY2::ASH | Mail Interchange Group, Reading | Mon May 30 1994 17:17 | 13 |
| I've just fallen for this one as well. Not sure how much I like it - only
heard it twice. I imagine the pop papers are playing the 'who does it remind
you of' game. Well, I did anyway!
Title track is straight out of the Small Faces (cries of "WHO?"), but more
than one track is reminiscent of XTC. They're one of those 'very English'
bands, which can sometimes get a bit irritating (one of the tracks SHOULD be
called Trycie Jyne).
But great to hear an unpretentiious guitar band - and some of the songs tend
towards the epic. Loking forward to another hearing.

| Cheers for lending us the tape, Ian. 'S crap innit. Well, not crap but
very poor. An improvement on "Parklife" though. It is certainly not
worth the rave reviews it has been getting in the music press. Mind
you, I caught a taster of the Oasis cd in HMV at dinnertime and that
doesn't sound all that inspiring but certainly a better effort than
Blurs.
