Anyone else heard the album 'Smeared' by Sloan? It seems to be getting
a fair bit of advertising and favourable reviews in the US currently.
(eg it got 3 1/2 stars in Rolling Stone, but in order to avoid the tag
of fashion victim, I'd like to point out that I already had the album
when I bought the magazine..)
if you get to audition it, listen to:
I Am The Cancer, Take It In, Sugartune, What's There To Decide
'yes, but what are they *like*?' I hear you ask.. 'guitar band' pretty much sums
them up.
- a guy with a weary voice and a guitar, three other guys with guitars, one
of whom also gets to play the drums.
To put my appreciation into perspective I also like (in no particular order)
MBV, Cocteau Twins, The Cure, Curve, Pearl Jam, The Blue Aeroplanes, Joan
Armatrading, Sugar Cubes etc.
album is on Geffen.

I think I've heard some of this. I usually like US guitar bands that
begin with the letter "S", anyway.

Nova Scotia I believe, as in 'now Nova Scotia has a more famous export than
tinned Salmon'
- is that how you spell Nova? (not an invitation to rathole - a rhetorical
statement)
