1128.0. "Mute label" by LARVAE::BALDOCK_I (I pity Inanimate Objects :-() Tue Mar 23 1993 13:22

I'm after a birthday present for a Depeche Mode fan who also likes some
other stuff that's available on the Mute label. I notice in the
Depeche mode note that there's a Mute compilation CD that features an
orchestral version of a Depeche Mode track. Does anyone know the title
of this compilation? Also, are there any other sampler/compilation CDs
    available with Mute stuff on?

I Have the one your talking about.... Ill look it out tomorrow as I
can,t remember the name of it. There was a Some Bizarre LP out years ago
which featured Depeche mode "Photographic" which was never released as
a single ,Ive seen this Kicking about record fairs. as for any other
compilation stuff I think this is the only one...but I might be
    wrong.!!

Great, thanks. I've seen (and borrowed) the Some Bizarre LP that you
mention, though this is less of an ideal present for my friend, as :

o Photographic is on one of the Depeche Mode LPs anyway
o He doesn't have a record deck, just CD.

I was in Our Price yesterday trying to order the compilation album,
without success. I got them to look up the track listing for all the
Mute compilation albums that are mentioned in the little catalogue you
get with DM's latest album. This didn't reveal any depeche mode
tracks, though a couple of the compilations didn't have track listings
in Our Price's catalogue. So I eagerly await your info...

The Mute comp is called "International" and it's totally dire.
Can't remember what DM track it was, but it's a mix from
Violator. It was also on one of their CDS...

Much better to get the Recoil album...

Thanks for the info, I've now got "International". Seems somewhat
varied, but I enjoyed Ohi Ho Bang Bang's track at the end of the CD,
and Fortran 5 weren't too bad. None too keen on the DM track though.

I've got Hydrology plus 1+2 on CD (Recoil) and like that, haven't got
any other stuff yet.. what's the best album?

Yes, the compilation was for my friend's birthday, but that's gone now
(he got a Recoil album instead!) so I'm hanging on to International for
the time being due to Holga Hiller's involvement in Ohi Ho Bang Bang..

I think Recoil only have one album, called "Bloodline". Features guest vox
by Andrew McCarthy (Nitzer Ebb), Toni Halliday (Curve) & forget who else.

Hydrology.. not heard; it's not on this album. Only single I've got is
"Faith Healer", that excellent Sensational Alex Harvey Band tune. 7 mixes,
well chuffed 'cause I got the CDS for a quid. Fraid I still prefer the SAHB
version, though...

Fave track has to be "The Defector" - a total Kraftwerk rip-off/sample.

International: yeah, thought the Fortran 5 track was nae bad.

Have you heard the Nervous Systems Mute comp? Now THIS is wierd....

    Hydrology is an album ....

.5 : No I've not heard the Nervous Systems compilation, what's it
like or what does it compare to?

There's several Recoil albums, might get some more soon, but I don't
remember what they're called at the moment. The Mute catalogue you get
with a lot of Mute albums these days is always handy....

I got Ohi Ho Bang Bang's single The Three (as featured on the
International CD) and there's some very good versions on there. It's a
CD Video single (remember them?) but there's 3 audio only tracks which
play on a standard CD player, 1 video track which I got a friend to put
on video cassette for me. Words fail me with the video, it's so wierd!
But the music is good, better than the version on International. Holga
Hiller wearing an alarm clock on his groin, rotating on a swivel chair
    and sharpening knives....

(Also got a Holga Hiller CD but didn't enjoy it much. I'll give it
another listen through though, it might grow on me.)
