1069.0. "Tokyo Sex Whale" by NEWOA::DALLISON (So easy to excite.) Thu Sep 17 1992 09:26

This band is made up of the remains of "10 Years After" (Mike Churchill
and Rick Lee). They're in the process of album pre-production at the
moment and have some interest from record companies.

For a couple of months I played guitar for the band along with my old
band, Stiff Kitty's, lead vocalist. I have since left the band and been
replaced by the guitarist from Aztec Camera (what it is to be brushing
shoulders with the stars!) but Alex, the vocalist, remains with the band
after the demise of Stiff Kitty.

The band are doing 10 tracks and the style, despite the ridiculous
band name, are performing in the Rock Blues style (ZZ Top springs to
    mind).

So, you heard it here first, and if a single piece of my music appears
on that pre-production tape, I'll sue 'em!

I confess a preference for the name Tokyo Sex Whale over Stiff
Kitty. Even better would be Stiff Whale Sex. :^)

One does begin to think that some people get together to form a group
for the sole purpose of inventing the stupidest name they possibly can.

If they spent as much energy producing memorable music, the music scene
in the UK, or even the Western World would not be in such a miserable state.

Is there a note for the stupidest group name? If not, I shall scan the
back pages of Melody Maker and start one forthwith.

My previous band, in its brief incarnation, was generally known
as Johnny Dysentry and the Heavily Soiled Undergarments. Tasteful,
    eh?

I have some friends in Birmingham who occassionally play together as
    "Hygiene conscious pig"
    It's pig-core thrash at it's most silly.

    Vic.
oh yes, and then there was "High as a kite and dressed in a duvet"

Some school acquaintances of mine had a band called The Caesarian
Disasters. Quite. They were useless but managed to support The
Omega Tribe, also useless, at Barnet College. Whilst on the
subject of school, the bassist from The Quireboys was in the year
below me and I believe Chas Smash of Madness went to my school as
    well. Impressed or what?

Well I saw the previously mentioned on the TV last night.
His name was spelt Tokyo Sexwale and he was one of the
ANC men in South Africa.

Alex and the guys are still recording the album. Heard some stuff that
hadn't been mixed yet and it was good. Still think the name is naff
    though.
