1061.0. "Iggy Pop " by KERNEL::MACLEAN (How cold is a sober stone?) Fri Aug 28 1992 13:08

Hiya!,

Anyone Remember a song by Iggy Pop called "The Passenger" (I am a
passenger ; I ride & I ride.. etc -  He sounds a bit Lou Reed 'ish )
I think it was very early 80's (or maybe even late 70's ?). "British
Hit singles" only credit Iggy Pop with Real wild Child/Livin on the
edge of the night and Candy....... and NO 'The Passenger' !...Anyone
know if this was a cover?....An album Track ? etc??-Clarify Please?

...What albums did he release?..any reviews?

 Great song. Is it on The Idiot?

It's on an album called 'The Sound of the Suburbs' with
loads of good stuff from the very late seventies/early
eighties. Ask Pete, he's got it.

.0 Anyone Remember a song by Iggy Pop called "The Passenger" (I am a

    By strange coincidence, an old friend leant me this one quite recently.

.2 It's on an album called 'The Sound of the Suburbs' ...

    All the other hits on that album where chart successes (i think). This
    one doesn't seem to have been in the charts at all (according to
    Guiness). It was definitely a single.

> Great song. Is it on The Idiot?

It's on Lust for Life, one of many albums he's released. I haven't got a
complete listing but some of them are:

Funhouse
Raw Power
The Idiot (suprise!)
Lust of Life
BlahBlahBlah

 It's on an album called 'The Sound of the Suburbs' ...

Are you sure? I agree with .3 on this, all the other tracks were not only hits
but most were by UK groups and "from the suburbs" (The Jam, The Members,
The Vapours etc). It was on a (fairly) recent compilation however, was it
3 minute hero's?
1061.5I got a lust for lifeUPROAR::WEBSTERMany old stringFri Aug 28 1992 17:147

    Agreed, it is on lust for life. Many of the tracks were produced/backed
    by David Bowie. Don't know of direct Lou Reed influence but Transformer
    also features Mr Bowie.

    Mike Webster.

    There's a good gritty cover of The Passenger on that Siouxsie covers
    album, as well. What a great song.

    Yep , I remember the Siouxsie Cover !....managed to get hold of a
    copy of "Lust for Life" at the weekend . Well worth a listen , but
    I was stunned at how overpowering the Bowie influence is on the
    album!....So no one remembers if 'the passenger' was ever released
    as a single then ?....It got lots of play in the clubs at the time
    but maybe it was just the album track . I was convinced that this
    had been released as a single , but am now beginning to doubt this
    ....unless anyone else knows differently !

    Sandie,

    I'm *almost* certain that "The Passenger" was issued on a single at
    some point in time, either in its own right, or, if not, as the 'B'
    side of Iggy's release of "China Girl" (great version of this,, eh?).

1061.9Great song.AYOV17::AMOONEYWed Sep 02 1992 13:218

    It was released as a single around '77,but when I tried to get a copy
    of it about 3 years after that,all I could get was a 12" German import.I
    can't remember what is on the b-side as it has been so long since I
    last played it.....still a classic.
