They're Welsh.
And they're crap.

| The current single's a cracker. Are'nt they supposed to be some sort
of Punk revivalists? Judging by the outfits and attitudes I've seen
splashed across the NME over the last year that would appear to be the
case; Sid style personal mutilations 'n all. However the single sounds
very metal to me.

Hum, is "crap" a new genre? :)
For a second I thought I was in H_M - BTW, there's a note in that
conference on them too. The only single I'm really familiar with
is "You Love Us" which if I'm recalling right sounded slightly
T-Rexish, more 70's revivalists possibly or at least musically
appreciative of that period.
The funniest comment I heard some where was the Toni Halliday
comparison - too funny - are they one and the same person? - although
funny it is certainly an insult to her (not meant to insult him in
the process but...)

| Very Glam, very O.T.T slightly camp.
VERY MANUFACTURED (probably by themselves)
Just what is needed at the moment. Good on e.m.
It's what rock n roll is all about. A touch of showbiz.

Perhaps I should expand on "crap" a bit !
The few things I've heard by them just sound like punk ripoffs, and
thus not very interesting. I do think it's all manufactured, but
there's no humour in it - they seem to take themselves *so* seriously.

| Apparently this lot have been spouting off at their gigs that they
hope Michael Stipe ends up going the same way as Freddie Mercury.
They have been trying to tread a path along the lines of the Pistols,
Clash, etc. for some time, but in trying to act/look 'outrageous', they
appear complete idiots.
Maybe with this latest outburst the Music Press will finally wake up
from their arse-licking and realise what a pathetic bunch of clowns
this lot are.
As regards their "music" I think Sigue Sigue Sputnik were more
talented.

| Sound like a bunch o' prats but I've liked some of their efforts
to date. Top marks for one of the best song titles of the year
with "Motorcycle Emptiness" which gives "I love you Fatty" a run
for it's money.

What's that about Michael Stipe being bi-sexual ? Did he reveal all in an
interview or something ?

Well, no one should care, but he's been very secretive about his
personal life, so I suppose Michael cares. I found out years ago when
I interned at IRS Records (when they were still on that label.) Plus,
I think he's been more open about it lately & has probably talked about
it in some interview or other. Plus listen to the song "Fretless" from
the Until The End of The World" soundtrack.

| I think the MSP's comment was bought on by the fact that a lot of music rags
have been spreading (or at least reporting) rumours that Stipe has got AIDS. As
he doesn't appear to give interviews, and didn't even bother to comment on the
rumours, the press went barmy over it, especially as R.E.M. are stadium material
these days. It was still a pretty stupid thing to say, but I'm sure a lot of
people didn't grasp why Nicky Wire said it.
Generally though, the Manics are a daft bunch. It was fun seeing them in the
Reading After Dark a while back, provoking the crowd into a near riot.
Musically though, they're nowhere near as dangerous as they'd like to be.

| Being a bit of a hypocrite I warmed to this lot after hearing
"Motorcycle Emptiness" last year, which had to be the song title
of the year. If you fancy a laff check out the lyrics to "Nat West,
Barclays, Midlands, Lloyds", I kid you not, a sort of sub-Clash
from the grave affair from the first album which also boasts one of
the best heavy metal romps I've heard in ages in "Slash n Burn".

| Just saw this on IRN.
How the guy can say that Richy should be left alone and then promptly
blathers his story to the press is a bit confusing/stupid.
NB - He has been more specific as to where he saw him than this leads
you to believe.
A man, who claims to have spotted missing Manic Street Preacher
Richey Edwards, is urging the world to leave him alone.
Viv Morris, who teaches at Neath College in South Wales, says he's
positive he spotted the guitarist in India.

My thoughts exactly ! Why would anyone go on National prime-time Radio
to say that they've seen someone who is at the moment missing,
presumed dead; give the exact location and circumstances surrounding
their sighting and then say that if Richie has gone to these lengths to
avoid the public he should be left alone... How much did he get paid do
you think ?
