990.0. "Army Of Lovers." by NEWOA::SAXBY (Is that IT?!?!) Fri Mar 13 1992 10:01
Jan asked for an Army of Lovers topic ages ago, but as I knew nothing
about them except what I'd seen of their videos, I couldn't think what
to write.
However, I've now found out a bit so here it is :-
They are from Sweden and consist of two very camp looking men (whose
names, as usual, escape me) and a very voluptuous young woman.
The young woman WAS La Camilla (a statuesque, raven haired woman with
a flair for the dramatic - shall we say?), but she has recently left
the group, either due to alcoholism or to pursue business interests
(she runs a model agency) depending on who you talk to. Her place has
been taken by an almost equally statuesque blonde by the 'name' of De
La Couer.
They certainly make a change from ABBA! Musically they are a bit like
,er um, Dead Or Alive without the rough edges perhaps? or maybe a dance
orientated Queen, perhaps? Who knows, maybe they don't need pigeon
holing. Their latest single, Ride The Bullitt, has distinct overtones
of ABC at times.
This most certainly isn't a group to be taken seriously and Dire
Straits lovers will hate 'em, but they make a cheerful enough noise
and if you find a healthy disrespect for the importance of pop music
appealing then you'll love their videos.

| The videos are a riot! I saw some on MTV and they're addictive.
