969.0. "Money's Too Tight To Mention again" by JGODCL::APETERS (C & C programs factory) Mon Jan 27 1992 12:57

A single (+CD+12") is out now in England by The Valentine Brothers called
Money's too tight to mention. Yup, it's the Simply Red song. It seems that
the V.B.'s wrote the original song in the early 1980's. It did not become
a great hit, only Simply Red succeeded in doing so (so far).

Does someone know in what year they wrote it, and just how well (or bad)
    it did? Any chart notations?

The new rendition, by the way, outdoes Simply Red IMHO, though. I
especially like the instrumental parts and the deeper rhythm.

The number of times I've heard the vapid Simply Red version and cursed
it to eternity is a very large number of times indeed.

If memory serves me right the real McCoy was released (my copy is on
import) in 1981, the time of ripped jeans and recession (hmmm...).

According to this weeks Echoes the re-release is a remix, slower and
with a piano break instead of the Sax on the original. Anyway that's
not to do it injustice, because with the original being just about the
steamiest piece of sexy thumping funk you could ever wish for, this has
got to be more essential a purchase than tonight's dinner.

Honestly, he waxes, one of the best records ever made, just forget
the Tenant's advert and the Simply Crap version.

How's it doing in the UK charts? Or did it pass into oblivion again....?
