950.0. "Cheapest Records in Reading?" by RUTILE::MACFADYEN (shake some action) Sat Dec 14 1991 22:01

I did a dir/title but couldn't see any note directly addressing this.

Which shop in Reading sells records the cheapest?

Answers welcome for all formats. Please feel free to mention shops further
afield as well.

Tower Records at Picadilly, London are selling all the top 40 albums
for 10 quid on CD (except the so called "long play" CD's which are more
    expensive - about 14 quid).

Bit far to go to save a pound though.....

A couple of years back my son gave me a list of albums he wanted (as
tapes) and I went round all the shops in Reading to compare prices.

It was an interesting exercise because no one shop had everything at
    the lowest price.

Since then, new shops have opened and a couple have gone.

I would suggest that the only way to do it is to visit them all.

In case you wonder if I have nothing better to do with my time, some of
the differences were quite dramatic... maybe 2 quid on a tape and also,
once the wife has disappeared into the bowels of Marks and Spencer,
what else is there to do in Reading?

Since you mention it...

The first time I visited Reading I found a place that did used records,
mainly collectables.. came away with a big pile of stuff. This was 4 or 5
years ago.. but I was back last summer and couldn't seem to find it, or
anything remotely similar.

Does anyone have addresses of second-hand record shops in
    Reading/Basingstoke/Winchester?

    Dave.

There's a second hand record shop in Traders Arcade, forget the name.
but it's only Rock/Indie mainly, with a bit of dance. Not much middle
of the road or other such stuff.

    GrEg...

There used to be one heading out from QH area towards Cemmy junction on the
right hand side just as you joined Kings road - don't know if it's still there
or what it's selection was like...

As for Basingstoke - there's the market stall in the new market place on
saturday mornings - dunno about albums but a reasdonable cross section
of stuff in tapes and cds.... got a Chrissie McVie tape for 2-50 the other
day ... sure they'll do discount for bulk too
