| I have to admit, I watched TOTP last night, just to see...
The effects were good, I will say that, but there seemed to be a lack
of imagination behind the whole thing. What was the point of 5 minutes
foot stomping at the end? It wasn't good enough to be entertaining.
The song wasn't much cop either. It seemed to pinch an early 70s
Stones riff, (sounded familiar anyway), and be very bland.
I've no doubt it will make him a large amount of money.

| I must admit I had no interest in seeing the vid at all - call me
old-fashioned, but I like something to stand on its own musically. As
far as that goes, I knew what I was in for with Jacko's latest as soon
as I heard that first 'AAaaaaaooooooo!'. Honestly, even his 'ad-libs'
all sound rehearsed down to the most minute nuance.
Yours unimpressed,

| I thought that the sequence with people changing into others of different race
was really good - I guess the processing for those effects would have cost
quite a bit. The rest of the video was fairly bland (like the song), it also
had that kid from 'Home Alone'(?) in it (puke bag time). The foot tapping
bit at the end was quite good - dancing on cars, smashing windscreens,
wrenching out the steering wheel and going for a joyride (well almost :-)
in fact it was not at all like the LA Gear ad. that sometimes appears on TV...

I took the end portion of the video to represent a break from his past.
The street scene was reminiscent of the "Billy Jean" video and the car
was like ......(I can't remember the name of the song)... but you know
what I mean. Like he was smashing his past work maybe? And the
exaggerated fly-zipping-up was a "safe sex" message, I assume.
He still dances the same moves as five years ago, still squelching,
still wearing stupid clothes (what was that "spat-thing"??) and
grabbing his package.
The song kinda reminded me of "Faith" by George Micheal!
The best part was the face changing stuff --- but didn't Squeeze do the
same thing about 8 years ago?

Yes. He did a special guest voice appearance. He played a mental
patient (big white guy) who thought he was Michael Jackson.
Basically, he was making fun of himself.

If it was, it wasn't credited. TV Guide implied that it was him, though.

They credited a special guest voice in the closing credits as John Jay Smith
or something along that line.
It sure sounded like him but I don't know if he has the chutspah to make fun of
himself as much as they did on this show....

allowed to credit him.

| The most amazing thing about 'black or white' is that is
reminds different people of different songs.
Faith by George Michael has already been mentioned. A friend of mine
thought it sounded like an early Duran Duran track. Someone also
mentioned its like a 'stones track.
Personally, I think its sounds just like 1999 by Prince.
Spooky ?

| I watched a prog on M6 last nuit called "Rapline". Pretty good on the whole,
to my surprise, but I mention it here 'cos they showed the full 11 minutes
of the jacko vid.
Have to admit I enjoyed it on the whole, and found the song pleasant though
I can't for the life of me remember it. Thought he looked a bit like Lenny
Kravitz at the start, then there's a very Diana Ross-like sequence (but we
already know he wants to look like her). The surprising bit about the
"controversial" end sequence for me was that the song is totally over by
then; like someone said earlier, it's just like the LA Gear advert, plus
there's a bit with strong wind and rubbish blowing by which was straight
out of one of his earlier videos; Billie Jean? All the crotch grabbing was
just silly, not offensive, you can hardly imagine there's much to reveal,
can you, he's so sexless. But I was knocked out by the face-changing
sequence, video technology sure is marching on. Was that Norm out of "Roseanne"
at the beginning? (And wasn't that bit with the giant amp a direct steal
from "Back to the Future 1"?)

down for the tour. Said that he appeared to have lost sight of what he
is good at. Apparently the new show is pretty tacky.
