Well, their first album came out a couple of months ago. Anybody heard
    it? Comments?

I heard it once, and liekd it a great deal. I'm too mean to buy it,
but its on my Christmas list.

I bought the LP last Saturday, and have listened to it a lot since.

The obvious comment, and it's true, is that they sound a lot like the
Cocteaus. But I'm the last person in the world to regard that as a
criticism. The only problem for any follower is that Cocteau Twins do
what they do very well indeed, both in conception and execution: a hard
act to follow. Slowdive don't quite hit that multi-layered sound that
    the Cocteaus achieve.

What they do give you is 40 minutes of dreamy and contemplative music,
the sort of stuff (NME said) that they play while staring at their
feet. There are some lovely chord changes and lots of wistful
semi-melodies, all played at a gentle place. I didn't find the LP quite
as immediate as the single (or two) that they previously released.

Slowdive play a sort of escapist music, really, mind-landscapes. But if
you come from Reading, escapism is only too understandable.
