This is not supposed to be a riddle (as in Topic 22), so I hope it doesn't turn
into one :-)
After checking out a number of conferences, I decided this would be the best
place since I'm asking for help in finding the name of a song by a 60's English
group which I first heard in my youth in England. A DIR/TITLE didn't reveal
any obvious place to post my question, so I started a new topic. And before
anyone asks, I'm *not* the same David Banks that used to be very active in a
number of U.K. conferences... :-)
I'm trying to find out the name of a song recorded by the Dave Clark Five in
the mid 60's. About all I can remember are the first two lines (not
necessarily quite accurate) which went something like "As I write this letter
to you, tears start falling from my eyes." And somewhere later there was
something like "as long as I'm comin' home, comin' on home to you." Could that
even have been the title?
It's been driving my wife crazy for a while and it's very difficult to get Dave
Clark music here in the U.S. where we're living. I've been told by a couple of
people that Dave Clark still owns the rights to all his music and he will not
release most of it in the U.S. for some reason.
Once I find out the title, I'd be interested to know if it was released on an
album and, if so, which one (just in case I could locate one here). If not,
then I might be asking if anyone can help me in obtaining a copy of it...
Any help appreciated at this point!

| The DC5 did "Come home" in 1965 (according to the Guinness book), but I
couldn't tell you if that's the same song. There are no DC5 records
listed in the "Oldies Unlimited" catalogue, which surprised me..
Not sure where you go from here, but maybe the above will help a
little.

That song title must be "Come home". The introduction was made by
bass guitar and symbal (with toumbrine ?). It is a slow ballad song.
As you've written, Dave Clark now has the rights to their music and
DOESN'T allow to release any songs they recorded in U.S. I think UK
has no re-issues of them now. As well as US and UK, NO songs of them
are re-issued here in Japan where I live.
But this year, their best CD was re-issued in Germany. Sound quality
is poor because the digital master seemed to be re-mastered from
records, not original master tape. This CD may not be official one.
But it's true that this is the only one CD at this moment.
As I have 2 best LPs ("The best of Dave Clark 5" released around 1980
in UK and "The very best of Dave Clark 5" 2 LP set released around the
same year in Germany) and above CD, I can tape them for you if you like.

| Thanks very much for the replies.
Once I had the name, I went to a local store which sells old (used) records and
such. They had four Dave Clark Five albums in the store, but none of them had
the song on. But I did find out from the cover of one of them that "Come Home"
was released in the U.S. on an album called "Weekend in London".
So I've started a local search to see if I can find someone who has a copy. If
I don't succeed, I might be back here to broaden my search... :-)

The owner of a local store managed to locate a copy of this album for me in
good condition and for what I consider to be a very reasonable price ($10
U.S.). So now I'm all set.
