| Quite a good scene, it appears, both at grass-roots and in high profile
acts: Slowdive, Chapterhouse, RDF.
There's a good free fanzine that comes out every fortnight and
available in the record shops, music shops, etc. It's called
'I love U'.
A couple of issues back they reviewed the new tape by Trousershock BC.
Not strictly a Reading band -- they come from Yateley, near Camberley
-- but it's close enough!
Anyway, watch out for this lot, along with The Colour Mary and The
Adrehend and, even, White Speed. Oh, and Loose Tornequet.

Anybody who likes American Rock/Metal but with a funk groove AND who
are a local band, should come and check out the fantastic band "Shot
to Funk".
Of course, I'm biased, I'm their guitarist 8^)

| RE: 6
The main venues are thus:
The After Dark Club, London Street.
(minor-major acts; major indie acts; local support bands; indie discos)
The Granby, Cemetery Junction.
(local bands, and some not so local -- all sorts)
Cartoons, Gun Street.
(as Granby)
The Purple Turtle, London Street.
(as above)
The 3B's Bar, Old Town Hall.
(as above)
Bukowskis, Gun Street.
(Jazz, Funk)
The Dove, Orts Road.
(Folk)
Central Club, London Street.
(Reggae, Roots, etc.)
MacDevitts Bar, 21 South Street.
(indie; folk; caberet; etc.)
Rising Sun, Silver Street.
(poetry; film; folk; street entertainment!; etc.)
Trades Union Club, Chatham Street.
(major and local indie acts)
Reading University, Shinfield Road.
(major acts, minor acts, indie acts, local acts -- rock, pop, caberet,
etc)
These are the more prominent Reading venues. There are others. There
are also more venues in Wokingham and Bracknell.
As for specific events, the best thing to do is get hold of a copy of
'I love U', the local free fanzine -- see an earlier note. But as a
taster:
Kirsty MacColl plays at the University on Oct 3rd., to be followed by
Senseless Things (Oct 6th), Chapterhouse (Oct 8th) and Beats
International (Oct 12th).
October also sees the After Dark Club playing host to Catherine Wheel
(27th) and The Family Cat (28th).
That's all for now,
Terry B.
