864.0. "The Fatima Mansions" by JUMBLY::OCONNOR (Moonlight on Vermont) Wed Jul 10 1991 17:21
Hi,
I put this note in Radio_Radio earlier. If there's any problem with
having the same base note in both files please let me know and I will
remove it.
This note is all about The Fatima Mansions. I've decided to post it in
Rad_Rad as the big news for any FM fans is that their records are now
finally released worldwide.
This morning I received some news from their publicity people and I've
included it below. What's included is mainly very, very favourable
reviews from various rock publications. In fact the text gets wildly
complimentary about the band and their last album ("Viva Dead Ponies").
I've included the contact address in case any of you are interested in
receiving a quarterly magazine detailing the bands' activities and in
which you can also buy FM rarities.
Hope you find it interesting.
- Tim
Here it is: (Brace yourselves...)
NME: "Makes Nick Cave sound like Cliff Richard"
Q: "The Fatima Mansions spit bile and brilliant rock 'n roll. They
cannot be ignored."
SELECT: "The finest Irish album in years and THE finest album of this
year."
The Guardian: "The most under-rated lyricist in pop today."
Melody Maker: "`Viva Dead Ponies' is mighty. No target left unscorned."
Record Mirror: "The return of The Fatima Mansions psychotic sonic
grooves is as glorious, funny and disturbing an experience
you could hope for."
Hot Press (Irish rock forthnightly): "It is not only the best album of
the year, but a headline for the decade."
Time Out: "There are too few people taking risks with modern music.
Take pleasure in watching this one ("Viva Dead Ponies") do a hundred
really ____ing stupid things and get away with them brilliantly."
(And their own banner): "The Fatima Mansions - The Mother of All Bands"

| All that and more! I believe Fatima Mansion (singular, possibly a
Cathal Coughlan solo gig) are doing something at the Mean Fiddler
acoustic room very soon.
