| Hu Gower the Records' guitarist put out a sole EP in 1984 and then went on
to work with David Johansen's band.

| Y'know I was tempted to write a note on this band quite recently and was also
listening to "Shades in Bed" last night; rather "World of the Strange"-ish
don't you think. I just lurve this kind of stuff and back in deepest 1979
this lot and Cheap Trick ( around the time of Heaven Tonight ) were first
teamers on the turntable. Apart from Huw Gower, the band included John
Wicks(?) and Will Birch and another chappy I fail to remember.
I've given the follow up to "Shades" a listen but it just pales in
comparison. There's nothing like the brilliant opener "Girl" on it
let alone "Starry Eyes" and "Affection Rejected". I think I saw this
lot live before I got into the album, did'nt they support The Jam
at the Rainbow in May 79?

Is this a band or the name of an album by ---?
You're right, after Shades in Bed, the material just wasn't as good.
What a shame. They had a killer formula!
Their CD compilation on Virgin, "Smashes, Crashes, and Near Misses" is
very good, including Starry Eyes and most of the songs from "Shades in
Bed."

| Ho!Ho!
I'll have to phrase myself differently next time. No, "World of
the Strange"-ish is'nt anything musical, it's an act by a couple
of British comedians (?) called Trevor and Simon; most of the act
entails these two chaps doning Jason King-esque hairstyles and
beards and generally commenting on coincidence and strange happenings.
Great stuff.
Barry.
