Does anyone have a file sitting somewhere with UK Top 40 singles since
1960 ? ... a tall order I think ....

NME always include the top 10 songs that were in the chart 5, 10, 15,
20 and 25 years ago. It might be worth dropping them a line to find
out their sources.
Just an idea...

There's a "Fred Fact" page in the NME in which readers queries are
answered. So like .1 says they may be able to point you in the right
direction.

Your best bet is to invest in the Guiness Book of Hit Singles(around
7/8).This lists all the records which made the top 75 since the chart
was introduced. The latest one covers up to 1988(I think),but there
should be a new one out this year,as they are re-vamped every couple of
years.(this should cover up to 1990).
