827.0. "Lydia Lunch" by JUMBLY::OCONNOR (Don't sleep on the subway Dahling) Mon Apr 15 1991 13:46

Does anybody have info (record releases etc) on Lydia Lunch ?

I bought the "Drowning in Limbo" CD this w/e and quite like it. The
first half of the album is instrumental and features lots of odd
electronic/`musical' noise. (You may have to like performance based
stuff to like it). The second half has LL singing/wailing (that's
probably put you all off already). It was recorded in '84/85.

    Thanks in advance.

   Tim..

You might try "La Hysterie".. its a compilation of various bits and
pieces from all the bands Lydia has been in/collaberated with, for example
Teenage Jesus and The Jerks, James Black and the Whites.

The sleeve notes on the album give a complete discography, I'll type
it in if you really want me to.

Her best album (according to the music press) was "Queen of Siam". Its
a kind of an odd mixture, but very listenable, (more singing than wailing).

Thanks Dave. I'll try to locate it ("La Hysterie"). I've often seen
her name in the music press (wasn't she in that `touring revue band'
with Nick Cave and two other guys ? - I think they went by the name
of The Immaculate Consumptives or something like that. Also do you
know if she had anything to do with that band "Scraping F. Off The
Wheel" ? BTW I can pass you on some of her poetry if you're
     interested.

     Thanks again.

She did do an album with the Foetus guy (Jim Thirwell?) called `Stinkfist',
though I've never heard it.

The only other thing I remember about Lydia Lunch is you could get T-shirts of
her around the time of Band-aid saying `F**k the world, feed Lydia Lunch'.

Crazy woman. I blame society myself...

    Stinkfist is horrible.

The only thing I've heard by that Jim Boy that I ever liked was the
Motorslug 12". The foetus/art/terrorism stuff is pretty wild though.

GALWAY NOTERS:

If you nip out to Zhivago's they've got some copies of "La Hysterie" (a
double album really) in the cassette bargain bin for just 2. (Eyre Square
Branch). Along with some other goodies.. Bill Nelson, and Spear of Destiny.
(I plumped for a Bhangra compilation mind you, thats what I'm listening
to at the moment)
