Saw them in New York in September, and after a dozen Coronas
they were pretty amusing. But almost sober the next day I was
positively embarrassed.

I saw them on the Teevee once, they did a version of "Your
time is gonna come". I am still in a state of shock.
Rumour has it that the day after that very transmission, Jimmy
Page was walking round Cookham asking people to pinch him...

I think that Dread Zep are worth a listen anyhow. Even the people who
haven't liked them much found the songs amusing. The four tracks on the
single come across as pure cheek. On "Woodstock" Tortelvis mumbles on
about how he couldn't make it to Woodstock festival but told Joni to
"write about it honey,...juss write about for me..." It's like a joke
you can dance to.
And I never listen to reggae usually.

Mr Dallison, this is sacrilege. Even the smiley does not excuse it.
Go home and listen to Zeppelin 1, then write out "Jimmy Page is god"

I must admit that live they were a little "erratic", still it's
all a matter of taste. You've got to put them in the context of
the late 60s/early 70s though before rating them. Incidentally,

You're not kidding. The only good thing about the Beastie Boys was that
they got me listening to LZ again. Although I have to admit, I wish to
hell they hadn't written Stairway to Heaven. The one thing guaranteed
to get up my nose is people pretending to be Jimmy Page and playing
Stairway really badly at parties ( No offence Jonathon :-) I'm sure you
sound as good as Jimmy :-) :-) :-) ).
Haven't heard Dread Zep yet, but given my irreverence towards classic
bands and tracks, I'll probably find someone I can scrounge a copy off
of so I can make my own judgements.

You're just TOO cool Piers. I believe medication is available.
I'm a firm believer that there's no better way to start the day than a
healthy dose of Led Zep at a healthy volume and before breakfast.
Take this morning fr'instance...I listened to Led Zep and Sandy Denny
doing "Battle of Evermore". It's true that it's a real shame about the
lyrics (the kind of mystic mumbo jumbo that would have sent Jimbo to
the A.A.). However the insistent mandolin strumming and the two lead
vocals work really well.
I am, however, one of those people who just cannot stand "Stairway to
Heaven".
