797.0. "Any Hamsters out there?!" by HEAD::KING (Now that's what I call a dead parrot...) Tue Jan 29 1991 13:44

Can anyone give me any information they have on The Hamsters please?

I went to see 'em on Friday night in Reading and I was well impressed.
Can't remember who supported them, but it doesn't really matter, 'cos
the support band were crap (the guitarist did more facial expressions
that Phil Cool and John Sessions put together...!).

I've seen The Hamsters billed as supporting Dr Feelgood. Have they
been supporting them long (i.e. years?). I can imagine a Dr Feelgood
gig with The Hamsters supporting as being quite something.

I saw lots of hamsters at my local pet shop.

As for information i beleive most libraries have books on caring for
your hamsters and my local one even has a book on breeding them.

    Audrey.

But beware of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Hamsters - they can give you a
nasty nip if they have to go without a gerbil food pizza...

You can tell these ones from the rest as they wear little coloured
    masks.
797.4Oi! Behave or the hampster liberation front will be called...!VULCAN::KINGNow that's what I call a dead parrot...Fri Feb 01 1991 11:2039

Tim...I thought you knew better boy...!

    =;*)

    It's sad!

You've all got it slightly wrong! The *hampsters* are down the local
pet shop and their music consists of -

    Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek...

    Eeeeeeeeek.

    Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek.

    (guitar break)

    Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek.

    EeeeEEEEEEe*Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee*eeeek.

In fact hampster music's quite similar to the stuff you listen to
Tim...not that I'm saying your taste in music is dodgy!

    Just varied! =;*)

It's not at all like the Hendrix covers and stuff like the
    Hamsters played!!!!

    Chris =:*)

797.7WELMTS::GREENBX days to go, maybeFri Feb 01 1991 12:564
The name is familiar, I think they may be from round here somewhere
i.e. Herts. Do they do kind of r'n'b stuff?

    Bob

Yeah, I think they are from down in Herts. somewhere...
They do a lot of Hendrix stuff, blues, some form of country stuff.

Dennis (the man who's wondering about the sellotape!), you are *SICK*!

I assume they know the PSB, but I'd ask Dennis about that, he seems to
    know *all* about it...

I thought I'd heard the name as well. They played at the After Dark in
Reading last Friday. Describe themselves as 'Rodent Rock'.

I saw the Hamsters a couple of months back at Farnham Maltings and...

    		WHAT A BAND!!!

They are well worth seeing - especially if you are a guitar buff.
The lead guitarist is un-believably good - especially on the
    Hendrix cover versions.

They are playing at the Farnam Maltings, Bridge Square, Farnham
on Saturday, April 6th. They usually sell out, so come early or
    get tickets in advance!

PS - they have an album - 'Electric Hamsterland' !! (all Hendrix
    covers)

Well, I've been to see 'em again, this time at a club just outside
    Wolverhampton (dodgy place, great venue!)...

    They were (as usual), amazing!

I'm off to Brighton tonight to see them again! Their T-shirts are
    great as well!!!

    Chris.

Just in case anybody wants to go there tonight, they're on at the
Concorde club in Brighton. I'm not sure where it is, so I can't give
directions! I should think they won't be on stage 'til 9/10/11 p.m.

    Chris.

If anyone wants directions I know where it is although I won't be at
    the gig.

The Hamsters are playing the at the main pier (can't remember the name
of the club) at Southsea (just down from Portsmouth) on April 5th.
They're headlining the gig, others include the Gutter Band and some
other band that I can't remember. I've heard *of* the Gutter Band
before, but haven't a clue what stuff they do...

    Chris.

Anybody got their gig list for March/April??
I've been meaning to get on their mailing list for ages and not got
    round to it!

Chris. (who keeps missing their gigs 'cos the car won't start =:*( )
797.17CURRNT::KINGI'm afraid you've got cows Mr FarnsworthTue Mar 03 1992 00:1815

Well, I went to see this lot again on Friday and Saturday nights.
First in Doncaster at the Jug and then in Birmingham at the Breedon
Bar. As usual, great. Playing a lot more of their own stuff as well
as the usual Hendrix et al...

They've got a new album out - "Hamster Jam".

Also they're doin' a session for the Bob Harris show on 8th March which
is apparently going out one song a night from 13th - 17th April, if you
haven't heard 'em yet, listen in.

    Chris.

Ah. I thought I'd this lot mentioned somewhere when I saw the poster
for forthcoming bands at the "Hand & Spear", next to the station in
Weybridge. They appear on April 16th.

    Rest assured I'll be there.

The Hamsters are doing the Edinburgh Festival this year at the
International Blues Festival (part of the jazz festival) on the 8th and
9th of August. 25 bands are playing including the Gutter Brothers,
Frank White band, Ruthless Blues and of course the fabulous Blues 'n'
Trouble who wiped the stage with the Hamsters at the Colne Valley
Festival last year (according to Bluesprint magazine).

It's the event of the year so be there.
