788.0. "Heavenly ?" by WIKKIT::WARWICK (Trevor Warwick) Mon Jan 14 1991 12:46

I was listening to John Peel last night, and I heard a track off a
soon-to-be released LP by a band called "Heavenly". Apart from the
notably duff name of the band, I rather liked the track I heard,
although I can't remember what it was called.

Can anyone supply any more information about the band ?

Their second album "le Jardin de Heavenly" (crap title, huh ?) was
released a couple of months ago.

I'd only heard one track off it, which I wasn't overwhelmed by.
However, the CD was "only" 8 quid, so I bought it anyway. I now like
it a lot. I think it is more consistent than the first album, on which
Shallow is by far the best track.

A good buy if you like good jangly pop tunes with breathy female
vocals. A bit like Altered Images in a way.

Is there a duet with Calvin (from Beat Happening) on this album
(or am I thinking of another band)?

Yes. The sleeve notes say that Calvin's vocal bit was recorded in
Seattle (whereas the rest was recorded in Didcot !). I don't know
whether that really qualifies as a duet...

Thanks. Then it's the song that I'm thinking of.

It was beautiful. How does it compare to the rest of the album?

That's one of the more poppy songs. Some of the others are a bit more
    melancholic.
