| The current single is called Sweetness and Light, the album is pretty
good as well, I think the stuff on the other singles is on the album,
well somes of it is at least.

| I would well recommend the single they had out last year "Mad Love"
which is slightly reminiscent of the Cocteaus mingled with the brutal
harmony of the Pixies in "Monkey Gone to Heaven".
(havent heard anything else by them though so the rest of the stuff
might be utter kak!)

767.3 | Sear | JANUS::CROOK | Close to the (clock) edge.. | Sat Nov 24 1990 00:36 | 13 |
| The 'album' is called 'Sear' it's more of an EP - about 15 minutes long. There
are two tracks on it which I think are really excellent: Thoughtforms and
Etheriel (room to squeeze them on a tape at the end of Heaven Or Las Vegas..).
It's available on vinyl and CD (Though I only found out about the CD after
buying the vinyl..) I read somewhere that it was produced by Robin Guthrie
(another good sign) but there's no indication of this on the album. IMHO, the
remaining tracks are 'so-so'.
I bought the 'album' as the result of seeing Lush when they were supporting
The Cure at the Crystal Palace Bowl in the summer. I haven't heard the
single.

767.4 | Compilation -- 5 new + 2-EP/LP | USCTR2::ZAPPIA | Just give pop the bird | Tue Nov 27 1990 13:49 | 8 |

I think the 4AD complilation contains 5 new songs and the Mad Love
EP and another EP/LP.
Not surprising they sold out at Nighstage in Cambridge/Boston and
the those in attendence appeared to enjoy last nights show.

| Jim, the album has the Mad Love EP, Scar EP, the latest 3 song EP (forget
the names of the songs on it) and an extra version of Scarlet and an ABBA
cover version (forget which one). And guess what else I forget, the name of
the album!

Nice review, Ed! The name is "Gala". Any idear why there was no
opening act at Nightstage? I hear that some people didn't realize
Lush would be on and gone before 11:30 the time when most
headliners generally come on.

| i don`t know whether they had a support in Sheffield at the Leadmill
when I waited for 1 hour in the pouring rain,only to be turned away
because I would not agree to have carnal knowledge of the fat,sweaty
pig of a bouncer. Needless to say this has tarnished my view
of this band, if you want class you should have seen the Pixies-
in -Brixton.

767.9 | New Lush yet? | SOURCE::ZAPPIA | It's just a 5 minute walk away | Wed Oct 02 1991 15:34 | 6 |

Did Lush complete their full length release? I'm quite sure I
heard a new song the other day and if so it sounded like their
tour along side Ride rubbed off on them a bit.

It looks like another EP, "Black Spring". At first listen they
sounded quite different and I thought Miki was replaced by a gent
but that was only because of an operator error on my part failing
to set the speed right!

| Re .9: I bought the 12" of Black Spring on Saturday. I haven't really listened
to it yet, so can't comment musically, but I did notice a reference to Ride
scratched between the runout grooves of the record! By the way, it's a Porky
Prime Cut.

you said it's a porky prime cut,is that what is scratched in the centre
of the record next to the label? If it is what's it mean - I've
wondered about this for years.

Porky is a disc cutter, that is one who transfers audio tape to disc. He
has done loadsofalbums.

767.21 | | CBHVAX::CBH | Mr. Creosote | Thu May 02 1996 15:10 | 13 |
| I bought the new Lush album the other week, `Lovelife', although I haven't
really formed an opinion as yet. It marks a noticable departure from the
overall sound that they've built on for their previous efforts, and the swirly
guitars and harmony vocals are noticable by their absence. At present, I
don't think I'm that taken by their new direction, the songs certainly
haven't grabbed me in the way that I'd have expected, and I think that they're
in danger of sounding like just any other guitar band.
I'll give this one a 5, for the time being (against Gala's 8, Spooky's 10 and
Split's 9 - all out of 10 on `Chris's totally arbitrary and inaccurate scoring
system')

yes, I think that they probably are. Actually, I think I was a bit harsh on
the album for daring to be different to the others; although it's still not as
good, it's better than I might have alluded to (I'm listening to it at the
moment - ain't CD/ROM's grate?)
Chris.

songs, too.
