| There are two things available. The first is Remasters, a 3 disk
compilation, all of the tracks have been remastered, and the sound
quality is great. Its well worth getting as a Zep sampler, a bit
expensive tho. Love the cover as well.
Soon to be released is a 6 lp compilation, including a couple of
previously unavailable tracks, I don't know what this will be called
tho.

| "Remasters" is available as a 2cd set (there is also a 4 cd version)
the cd & tape have more tracks than the vinyl version
sound quality seems reasonable (i've only managed to hear a couple of tracks so
far)
it was re-mixed for cd format earlier this year (by Bonham); this doesn't mean
that synth drums or "Oh Yeaahs" have been added to it :-)
...art
ps. isn't this compilation being hyped in the states? is this because they are
re-forming?

| I got the Remasters on CD (two); a lot of the titles I know are on it,
including: Whole lotta love, Kashmir, Achilles Heel. Those are the ones
that to me are ok, the others: Dazed and confused, No quarter and The
Song Remains the Same aren't as good as the live versions recorded on
"The Song Remains the Same".

I thought it was re-mixed by Page cos he was listening to the original
stuff and been appalled by the quality.... if it was bonham then I'm amazed that
a fairly dead person can do this :-)
Telegraph review bloke loved the 4 Cd set .... he thought the 2cd set wasn't
enough
I think the 2 cd set hasn't been released yet in the UK at least - due
next week ??
... FWIW I can't imagine Page being staight long enough to do this :-) :-)

| Well it could have been Jason Bonham.
Re the reforming. I'm sure I've heard Robert Plant say that they
have been offered obscene amounts of money to reform and do a tour.
Perhaps when they need the money enough they will reform.

When John Bonham died, Page said, very publically, the Zeppelin would
not perform together again, that's it finito, the end, goodnight. This
was the case for many years despite, lots of, again, very public,
offers of mucho loot. Then the rot set in & they began to play small
charity gigs together, culminating in Live Aid. It occurs to me that
the original statement has now been forgotten & a reunion wouldn't
surprise me in the least. However, I am not sure that its for the
best, but at worst case it would be interesting to see what they came
up with.
I'd go along to see them anyway.
I remember seeing Page at NEC Birmingham, when he played with The Firm,
he was something special, very, very talented, but seemingly very very
drunk (or high?!?) ode to be a rock star !!
FWIW, I also saw Robert Plant recently, at The Hexagon in Reading, he
was with Ronnie Wood (before the legs job) watching Jimmy White playing
in the Rothmans Snooker Tournament, he didn't sing tho' so I can't say
what form he's in.

I doubt it very much especially with the soon to be second solo
effort that Jimmy Page is working on. He will no doubt be on
the road supporting it once it's out.
As for Robert Plant he was touring with the Black Crowes who both
put on a great show and now I hear that Faith No More is on the
road with Plant finish up his tour.
As for their decision not to continue as they were that is
obvious since it is physically impossible, and even if Robert,
Jimmy, John Paul Jones, and Jason Bonham were to do anything
I don't think it is going back on their word. Even though I
always believe in never saying never.
Back to Remasters....So what's not included in Remasters that
was in the state-side Led Zeppelin 4-CD set?

756.9 | Both available in the UK | KERNEL::MCGOWAN | | Wed Nov 28 1990 14:05 | 7 |
| There are two different versions of remasters available in the UK
- one with 2 CDs (or tape/record equivalents) and one with 4 CDs.
The 4 CD version costs about 48 quid(ish), but is available in most
record shops. From looking at the cover, it's just got more tracks
from each of the albums, and also 2 or 3 previously unreleased tracks.

I bought "Houses of the Holy" recently (cheap CD) and I AM impressed
all over again. At the time this was judged to be their poorest album
but as my house-sharer said "You can't break the rules in heavy metal"
(or not then at least).
"The Song Remains The Same" is the kind of guitar rock that the wedding
present would be proud of (really). "D'yer Mak'er" is pure reggae while
"The Rain Song" sounds like Plant is being accompanied by the London
Symphony Orchestra. And "Dancing Days" (if re-released) could make it
to No. 1 yet!
Strange album and it has its bad moments too.

One of the major disasters of the '90s has been Led Zepplin becoming
cool again. I think I'd prefer a Steeleye Span revival...
