Well,

Since you're @ MACNAS I doubt if I could tell you anything that you
don't already know as I'm not a fan at all. They're from Tuam, they're doing
very well right now & I believe that they're playing in Seapoint this Thursday.
See Observer, Advertiser for details. Tks 4 in advance, 5 on door.

But..wasn't that by "Too Much For The White Man"???

As for the Sawdoctors...yes they are Tuam based and managed by Ollie
Jennings(he of Galway Arts Festival fame) Their front man is a real
down to Earth(fact they all are) fella called John 'Turps' Burke.
They are presently at no1 with their song "I used to love her" which
was originally written by one time Tuam band Blaze-X a few years ago.

They also have an album out...can't recall the name at the moment!

"The N17",contains the lyrics "stone walls and the grass is green",
which was the first single released by The Sawdoctors, and NOT the
aforementioned "TMFTWM" (or too much for any man!).
They are presently number one ,third week in a row, with sales
    exceeding 15,000 copies,with the single "I USETA LOVER",and not
"I Used To Love Her",which was the original Blaze-X version.

According to Hot Press, Blaze-X and The Sawdoctors are one of the same!

Anyway, the Lavey Inn in Cavan ( up ya girl ya, Semantha ) saw 1700
people assemble to see the lads Saturday night.

"I useta lover" was written back in 1980 but the lads weren't satisfied
with the lyrics and rewrote it ( keeping the chorus ) in '88.

the first issue having "Freedom Fighters".Should be interesting to
see the impact it makes on the charts (if any).

>> Anyone care to give a review of the 'doctors performance at Feile '91,
>> the trip to Tip.????

The Sawdoctors without any doubt got the biggest crowd reaction of anyone..
If any memory of the weekend will stick with me, it was when 30,000 people
joined in with "N17". During this some of the bands' fathers appeared on
stage with them, (like on the album cover).

The 'doctors could probably have got away with just playing .. but the stage
show was a sight to behold too, giant vegetables and bales of hay jumping
around the stage, even a tractor was on at one point.

Another surprise was the guest appearance of Mike Scott of the Waterboys
(well, not much of a surprise, he produced their early records)

You just had to be there, really.

There is a rumour that Bono and the Edge may be appearing at the

their new album to be appearing in Tuam but time will tell.

Take the Pogues, throw out Shane McGowan, and bring in someone
who can sing for real, then tell them they have to compete in the
	Eurovision song contest.....

Seriously though, they're a band who should be seen 'live'..
there's no act more popular in Ireland at the moment.

don't think it's as good as their first one, but it's still great. I
reckon it'll grow on me though.

Btw, they are rumoured to be playing in 'The point depot' again this
new years eve. I was there last year & it was one of the best concerts
I've ever been to (however drink etc did play a part !!). If you can
get there it's worth the effort.........
