| Something Happens are the "latest thing" in Ireland at the moment,
beyond that I dare not comment... except that they do a version of
"Skippy the Bush Kangaroo" as part of their live act.

| Adam,
See note 678.* I think that I also put in a review of them in
the album review notes 18.100. Everyone has different taste, but one
particular Something Happens concert was the best I was ever at.
Enjoy! (And review in 678 or concert please!)
-Brian.
P.S. You're in for a brill night.

Sorry to be a miserable bugger...
I went to see The Mission at the NEC in Birmingham and SH were the
support (or at least I think they were!!!).
I personally didn't like them much. The worst bits were when they
played a *rock* version of Summertime Love (before that I'd only
heard the Sabrina version - the boys boys boys thing...), also the
loudest cheers they got were when they announced that the next song
would be their closing song!!!!
Sorry to be so honest, but that's what I thought!
(No dodgy replies about being a Mission fan an' all that stuff!!)

| Something Happens are an excellent band, but not exactly in the same style
as The Cult or the Mission. I suppose you might call their music classic pop or
something like that.

Well, gotta be of some interest, a band that plays a rock version of
Summertime Blue's (not particularly original) & a version of Skippy
the bush Kangaroo. I may have a few large ones alongside this gig, in
addition, I'll report back; converted or not.
I followed the pointers regards previous reviews & it seems these guys
have got some lyricist....
> What kind of god gives you a rod
> Then says you can't go fishing
..........watch this space!

I heard a bit of 'Stuck Together with Gods Glue' last night, a song
about parachute jumping....sounded good to me. I have a sneaky feeling
this gig is gonna be a goodie.

I went to the T&C on Friday, which just happened to be the hottest day
this century, & had a fantastic night. It was the first time I'd been
to T&C & I'll be going again.
There were approx 1500 people there & the bar ran out of cool beer !!
We had to settle for warm can's...not good, but the music really made
up for it.
When we arrived a band called 'Trash Can Sinatra's' were on stage and
they were O.K. but nothing special, the lead singer must have been a
little p***ed off by the lack of response his band were getting, as he
muttered something about wasting his time then threw the microphone down
when their set finished. Too bad because they were, as I said, O.K.
Then, after a few more warm beers, Something Happened came on to mucho
applause, they ran through a few really rocky numbers that got the
whole place jumping about, even the bar staff were bopping. I didn't
take any details of what they sung, I was having too much of a good
time. Anyway, members of the audience were jumping up on stage,
grabbing the singer, or guitarist for a moment, then diving back into
the audience, over peoples heads, great fun from a distance, however
the singer & guitarist were getting a bit p***ed off with it as they
motioned for the bouncers to do something about it, which they did.
They began one number which I recognised, called Parachute, & I thought
the place was going to collapse there were that many people jumping up
& down....the atmosphere was fantastic. They finished with a medley of
60's stuff & an encore called 'Killed the Roses' which was a ballad.
All in all a great night, great atmosphere & warm beer (can't have
everything), I'd go and see this band again tomorrow.....

I think I must have seen 'em on a bad night...!

707.9 | A lot happens at their concerts......... | XSTACY::NBLEHEIN | | Tue Aug 06 1991 16:42 | 11 |
| Nobody has added to this one in a while so I might as well.
Anybody who has been to a Something Happens gig knows too well about
the kind of experiences in -.2 .Stage diving is something that SH fans
tend to do a lot of.
I'm not a HUGE fan although I do like them (and so does NME & Melody Maker
if that influences anyone). The second last gig I was at they played 10 new
songs but I didn't think that they were up to the same standard as "HELLO......"
or "BEACH" . Thay were pretty good at Feile '91 though.
