700.0. "Help with a REC title" by CHEFS::MADGEJ () Thu Jul 05 1990 17:05

    Hello,

Does anybody know the record in the top 40 with a bit of the theme
track from Bonanza.. It's some kind of rapping song and sung by
    a coloured guy.

The theme track has been used as part of the chorus. The only bit
of lyric I managed to catch was "no other Rap comes close". (I beleive
this was also part of the chorus).

I have been to both Listen in Reading and both HMV's but all three of the
shop assistants looked at me as if I was crazy !!!

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Regs

If it's the same as the one I heard last night, it's a joint effort record by
808 state and some other guy who I've never heard of before. It was called
`the only rap that bites' or something like that. I liked the Bonanza bits!

    HI MATTY,

Life is a lot better after CRA... Looks like I could be moving on
again soon hopefully !!. You've moved away from DAS now haven't
you ? Up North with Mark Collins I believe.

Anyway thanks alot for the name of the artist...I'm straight off
into town to try and buy it now.

    Cheers

This was on Top of the Pops last night... all 45 seconds of it. I
assume the record actually lasts a bit longer?

This looked like an appropriate place, can someone please help me
    out here?

I can't get this tune out of my head and I don't know what it's
called, where it's used, not a lot at all really.

    	It goes... "Paaaaah, paaaaah, paaaaah,
      		    pa-pa-pa-pa-pa, pa-pa-pa-pa-pa,
    		    paaah, paaah, paaah,
    		    pa-pa-pa-pa-pa, pa-pa-pa-pa-pa,
    		    paaah, paaah, paaah,
    		    pa-pa and so on

...and conjures up visions of an open top sports car driving around
the cliffy areas around the south of France, or maybe it's an advert
that's been on TV, or maybe something from the Italian Job. Like I say
this is driving me nuts (has been bouncing about in my head for about
    3-4 months now), please HELP!

Sounds like 'Happy Together' by the Turtles release circa 69/70. The
    opening goes....

Baby, you and me and me and you
No matter how they tossed the dice it had to be
The only was was me for you and you for me so happy together...

The 'pa pa pa' bit is a chorus sung halfway through without words as
    such.

After half the Warrington CSC spent most of the day humming it, we came
    up with a couple of alternatives;

Reward - Teardrop explodes (couldn't picture the car in France though,
only a jeep racing round docklands)

Strangers in the night.... no comment

    and finally.........

'Un homme, une femme' from the Italian Job.

It's not that dodgy old song by Cream, "I feel free", or whatever it's
called?

Chris.

'Un homme et une femme' from the Italian Job? I thought this was from the
French film of the same name (Un Homme et Une Femme) which was a big
hit (as 'A Man and a Woman') for someone's orchestra in the early 60s
    (Percy Faith?)

I recognise the tune now...

But I don't know what its called either. Its one of those 60's tunes
you might expect to hear in a lift at Selfridges. Along the lines of
"Music to watch girls by" (but thats not it).

Possibly Herp Alpert and his Tijuana Brass.

I actually thought it was Music to Watch Girls By, but I didn't like to
mention it in a family conference. I always preferred the Higsons'
cover, anyway. More "pah" in the trumpets.

I caught a great song on Danny Baker on Sunday and I meant to write
down what it was, but of course, in true anti-DJ style, he never tells
you what you've been listening to!

It's a female vocalist, and the words were along the lines of:
"I can't believe I have fallen for you". "You're my dream coming true"
Very corny I know but I liked it!.

Any ideas? I think it was quite recent.

    Thanks, Debs.
