698.2 | Anything happening at Wembley tomorrow? | CHEST::ELLIOT | | Fri Jul 13 1990 12:00 | 11 |
| Can anyone confirm (today!) whether the Stones are playing at
Wembley tomorrow?
Their concert in Cardiff on Wednesday was postponed until
Monday. We don't really want to go to London and then find
that it's been postponed, specially since this looks like
being the first nice (i.e. sunny) weekend we've had for ages.
Anyone in the know out there?
June.

| I rang the box office this morning to check whether they are playing
tonight 6-Jul-90 - they are. Didn't ask about tomorrow though.

| Trev,
Guess it must be OK for tomorrow as well, then (assuming you meant
13-Jul-90, otherwise you've missed it!)
Thanks for the quick response.
June.

| :-(
:-(( We set off at 14:55
:-((( Concert cancelled at 15:00
Arrived at Wembley to see a policeman with a piece of cardboard
which said "Concert cancelled". Result, one lovely evening spent
stuck in London traffic. All cos of Keith's finger.
Both Friday and Saturday were postponed till 24th/25th of August.

| Sounds like a really wonderful evening!! We were lucky because Saturday's
cancellation was announced in the morning. We're only a couple of hours
from London, so we were able to wait and see and were spared a wasted
journey. We were also fortunate not to have to pay for the hotel room we
had booked but no longer needed - the hotel would have been within their
rights to claim compensation from us if they had suffered a loss as a
result of our cancellation.
Given the price of hotels in London, and the distances that some
people have to travel (and therefore the time needed) to get there, it
does seem a bit off to only give a few hours notice.
Better luck next time!
June.

698.7 | Sounds Familiar | XSTACY::PATTISON | A rolling stone gets the worm | Mon Jul 16 1990 15:48 | 7 |
| The Stones were in Scotland a few years ago, and their Edinburgh gig
was announced two hours before tickets were on sale (on local radio). I
queued for 4 hours, to be turned away (10 feet from the box office)
when they sold out. There were literally thousands of irate fans behind
me by this stage, and when promoter Harvey Goldsmith was spotted
leaving the theatre there was a surge forward, he just managed to get
in to the taxi intact.

| Heard on the radio...that when the Cardiff gig was cancelled...
some guys were selling t-shirts that read "I didn't get no satisfacion"
to the *fans* outside the venue!
And they sold a good few...

| Heard recently they might be doing another "Last Tour" (sounding
more like Status Quo everyday).
Has anyone any info on this - Wembley Box Office don't know anything
at present.
Cheers
