639.0. "Should've been released as a single." by SHAPES::BROWNM (This is MY decade!) Wed Mar 28 1990 13:27

Here's your chance to put which LP tracks or songs weren't singles, but
should've been. Like "It's a crime that that wasn't released" type of
    thing.

Sorry it's a list, but I'd like to know whether other people agree or
disagree. These are the songs that make these artists special for me.
I reckon 95% of them would have been big hits if they had been
released, and at the right time. What do you think?

    Here's some of mine;

Madonna	-	"Where's The Party"	off True Blue
"	-	"Burning Up" off the 1st Album
"	-	"Till Death Do Us Part" off Like A Prayer
       "	-	"Stay" off Like A Virgin
       "	-	"Can't Stop" off Who's That Girl
"	-	"Spotlight" off You Can Dance
Erasure	-	"Phantom Bride" off The Innocents
       "	-	"Reunion" off Wonderland
"	-	"My Heart So Blue" off Wonderland
"	-	"Imagination" off The Innocents
"	-	"Hideaway" off The Circus
"	-	"Brother And Sister"	off Wild
"	-	"When I Needed You"	b-side (Ship Of Fools)
Pet S. Boys	-	"Tonight Is Forever"	off Please
       "	-	"2 Divided By 0"	off Please
       "	-	"Shopping" off Actually
       "	-	"I Get Excited..."	b-side (Heart)
Joy Div.	-	"No Love Lost" off An Ideal For Living
    New Order	-	"1963" b-side (True Faith)
"	-	"Love Vigilanties"	off Low Life
       "	-	"5-8-6" off Power Corruption & Lies
       "	-	"Age Of Consent"	off " " "
       "	-	"Your Silent Face"	off " " "
"	-	"All Day Long" off Brotherhood
       "	-	"Paradise" off "
"	-	"Vanishing Point"	off Technique
       "	-	"Mr Disco" off "

Sorry if that bores you, but I did it anyway.

It was released in the US, Holland and Japan, but not over here. The
4 track video which includes `Burning Up' contains the US video. The
version on there is just an edited version of the 12" that was released
in the states (it was 12" only over there).

If you're interested the US 12" is by far the best version and is
widely available on import. Also the US LP version is different to the
UK LP version, more guitar based.

    ps. It's my favourite song!

Unfamiliar with most of your tracks, but I have a feeling that NO's
"Vanishing Point" WAS released as a single. Besides, you can always
watch "Making Out" on Beeb 1 and hear it as the theme tune.

    RE -2,
Nah, `Vanishing Point' wasn't released as a single either. Great pity
though. Best dance record they've ever done in my opinion. `Fine
Time', `Round And Round' and `Run' were released as singles, the latter
being in limited quantity, therefore not charting, and being re-titled
    `Run2'.

Eurythmics "We Two Are One" LP - "When The Day Goes Down"
Pet Shop Boys "Please" LP - "Later Tonight"
Heaven 17 "The Luxury Gap" LP - "Key To The World" (same style as "Temptation")
Fine Young Cannibals "Raw & Cooked" - ......oops ...they've released them all !

Every track on side 1 of Hard Day's Night. Having listened to this LP
the other day I firmly believe that every track on this side would have
been No 1 if they'd been released. Also at least one track on side two
    (Things we said today).

    Peter,

    I find `Later Tonight' a strange choice! I like the song, but I can't
see as a single. Each to his own. Great LP!

These two tracks would have been a better choice than the last single
from this album "Little 15 "
