| What can I say about the album 'The Real Thing' except its the only
one I've had in the car for weeks. It just doesnt get boring.
Its such a varied piece of work. From standard heavy rock to the rap
rock crossover to hardcore type thing to the jazzy piano number 'edge
of the world'.
A quick read of the lyrics reveals a little intelligence aswell. When
was the last time a rock band got the word 'omniscient' into a song?
I had to go and look it up and Ive got 'O' levels 8^)
What can I say except if you havent got it, get it even if you dont
usually like this sort of thing. Its very varied.
re:- War Pigs. A really good version which has even inspired me to
learn how to play it myself.

| I've got the `Epic' shaped picture disc. The a-side plays 45 and the
b-side plays 33. When I first played the b-side I thought it was a
woman singing!

| Whoaah, wait a minute. This band have done a rap/funk version of War Pigs???
I mean, I know run DMC used recorded an Aerosmith song, and Led Zep have
been sampled by every second rate rapper, but this is getting ridiculous!
What next - De la Soul covering Megadeth? Public Enemy getting together with
Alice Cooper?

No, the War Pigs cover is not a rap version. Its the same style as
the original Sabbath tune.
Its nice to see that the band have gone to the trouble of getting
all the little nuances in, like getting the guitar fills in the
right place, and the solo is pretty much the same as the original.

615.6 | We care alot | SUBURB::DODDINGTONC | | Tue Feb 27 1990 13:00 | 10 |
| I heard the Faith No More single "We care alot" Quite a while back
and thought it was brilliant.
As far as the new album goes, I think a couple of the tracks are
mentally brilliant, but I'm affraid there is some shit as well,
but on the whole it is a good effort.
Col
p.s. Is it true there was a riot at one of their recent gigs?

615.7 | | FORTY2::ETHERIDGE | Get back to the sea!!! | Mon Mar 19 1990 15:19 | 8 |
| They've announced another British Tour with them playing Hammersmith
Odeon on April 27th. I hope to get up there.
'Epic' is on the video in a pub in town, and it gets some really odd
looks from all the soul boys when that Patton geezer starts leaping
about. Great video.

| Tony,
You lucky bleeder. My mate has been trying with the agencies to get
tickets for Hammersmith almost from the word go with no joy. They're
still trying but I hold out little hope.
Yeah they're playing Brixton Academy on the next Saturday. I
dunno if I can make that date though, so fingers crossed for Hammersmith.
If all else fails I'll go up on the night and get ripped off by a tout.
Oh well.
Ian.

It's about time I made some time for this lot again...eh Guru!!!!!
I've got a ticket for the gig at the Glasgow Barrowlands on the 22nd.
The only set back (teehee) is that the other three people going are
all female. Oh no, what am I gonna do.......
I'll try and get a small review posted to let you guys know what your
in for. I must admit though that I have only heard snippets of their
stuff but hope to get a tape made up before the gig so I can become
a bit more familiar. From what I've heard so far they sound very much
like The Red Hot Chili Peppers (has someone else said that already?).
Cheers
Tommy

615.13 | From Nowhere | GALVIA::STEPHENS | Not me, baby - the mints | Fri Apr 06 1990 11:00 | 5 |
| Does this band have a single out called "From Nowhere"? I heard a song with that
name on the radio last night and it's damn good. I think the DJ mentioned
Faith No More. Is this song on their "Epic" album?

I'd certainly like a listen.
Ta,

615.16 | Red Hot Chilli's | GREBO::GURU | Your twisting my melons | Fri Apr 06 1990 12:14 | 7 |
| The Chilli Peppers have about 4 or 5 albums out, US West Coast band I believe
with their latest album called "Mothers Milk". Tommy went to see them about 2
months ago so he will be able to describe their music a bit better.
They are infamous for the cover of one of their EPs wher they impersonate the
Beatles walking across the zebra crossing in Abbey Road, but the Chilli's were
starkers apart from a sock on their John Thomas's.

615.17 | | KERNEL::PARRY | 16 bits R SXy | Mon May 14 1990 13:52 | 16 |
| Well after reading these notes and seeing FNM on Raw Power (TVS
only I think) I bought the cassette. It took me a couple of weeks
searching for a shop that hadn't sold out ! Perhaps the chart
position for the album could have been better, if the demand in
Basingstoke is anything to go by.
Raw Power had the singer and the guitarist on a few weeks ago. Ever
since then, they have managed to show either the "Epic" or "From out of
Nowhere" video each week. Last week they even managed both. Oh
and the presenter of Rock Steady said they were one of his favourite
bands.
RE: a few back
Thanks for the info about the two extra songs on the cassette.

| Great video for "Easy". What's the name of the singer, Mike
Patten? From the interviews I've read he's quite a strange
character that lad.
