537.0. "With God On Our Side" by WELMTS::GREENB (Without Chadwick we'd be in the) Mon Nov 13 1989 11:55

Yesterday at 11 a.m. on good ol' Radio Fun, immediately after the
remembrance day silence, I heard a version of Bobby Dylan's 'With
God On Our Side'. Judging by the production, it is a very new
recording; it has very atmospheric synths and guitar, and a singer
    who's voice I didn't recognise.

As I didn't catch the name of the artist, does anyone know who recorded
    it?

    Bob

Bob, I heard it too, I think it must have been a recording made by
Elvis while flying over the Ukraine...

    Sorry Bob!

    Bob,

It must be from the Nevill Brothers latest album. I think it has
just been released as a single...it's got that Christmasee feel
    to it...

Aaron Neville did it; apparently Linda Ronstadt had some involvement
    but I don't know what.

They both sing on it as a duet.

Apparently it took the best part of a year for Linda R. to ask Aaron to
    sing with her.

After her Mexican musical excursion anything has got to be better.

Bob, it's taken from the Neville Brothers' critically-acclaimed
(and pre-Linda Ronstadt duet) YELLOW MOON album, released earlier
this year (which I hope to get around to buying in the very near
    future - review to follow).

Don't wait for the review - buy it NOW. Yellow Moon is sensational!

Did anyone see the Nevilles on Big World the other week? Were they good?

(And a bit more trivia: the Neville Brothers appear on Bob Dylan's new LP
Oh Mercy - produced by Daniel Lanois, who did Yellow Moon and lots of
    U2).

    More Trivia...

Aaron Neville does a wonderful(best version ever IMO) vocal job on
'Amazing Grace' the last track on Daniel Lanois' debut album 'Acadie'

Apparently there's a Neville Brothers compilation out on Rhino, called
something like "The Story of the Neville Brothers" (but that might be a
    subtitle).

Anyone know anything about the record, or about Rhino in general?

(There's also some old Aaron Neville reissued on Charly, if you're
    interested...)
