I was in HMV this morning (bright and early...), and I heard a couple
of tracks from the new Siouxsie and the Banshees album, which I thought
sounded pretty good. Has this only just been released (e.g. today) ?
If anyone already has it, what do you think of it ?

While you were there, did you pick up your tickets for the show at the
University on the 26th?!!
g
ps Thought I'd see them before investing in the album.

| I think the new album's fantastic! stupendous! But then again, I
am a HUGE Banshee fan. I'm glad the new single is getting a lot
of airplay around here.

See Siouxsie as Emma Peel (Diana Rigg) in the "Kiss Them For Me"
video.

| Second hand review here - I work with someone who saw Siouxsie at the
Uni last night - she said they were diabolical.
Shame really - I'm of an age to remember her first time round.
"Because the Night" and all that...:-(

| I heard they were very average as well, the quote was "They've lost
their edge", so at 9.50 gor a University gig I'm really glad I didn't
go.

I bought Superstion recently and also think it is a great record.
It probably hasn't got some of the urgency and raw feeling of the old
stuff. It's a record that grows on me, each listening I discover
something else I like.
I saw Siouxie at the T&C on Sat. The show is composed of 60% tracks
from Superstition, including Cry, Silver waterfall, Kiss them, even
the slow number Softly, which is much improved live and 35% old stuff
including Metal Post Card, Happy house, Cities in dust etc.
The other 5% was the first encore, a thankfully short cabaret/Ertha
Kitt style number. The second encore more than made up for it.
I great concert.
Mike.

| Well, I think 'diabolical' is a bit strong! Maybe luckily, I hadn't seen them
before, and haven't really been a great fan. Though I've liked the singles and
Peepshow is great.
After each of the first few songs, Siouxsie complained about how unhappy she
was with the way it was going, though it wasn't obvious to me what it was.
Their problem seemed to be a lack of variety. Every song was driven along by
the drummer, percussionist and bass, with only the occasional entry from a
keyboard to relieve the pounding. The giutarist seemed to be there just to
make them look symmetrical on stage! Though this really highlighted
"Peek-a-boo' when the keys player came to the front with an accordion. The
only other song which really made it for me was 'Kiss them' which used 2
keyboards (no bass) to generate some interest.
Short, perfunctory encores, and both band and audience seemed disappointed by
the whole affair.
The new single is 'Shadowtime' (?), another highlight, on only one hearing -
might yet fork out for the album!

513.9 | Album is pretty good | WIKKIT::WARWICK | Trevor Warwick | Wed Jul 03 1991 16:23 | 7 |

I bought the album, and I've only listened to it a couple of times so
far, but I think the best tracks are "Kiss Them For Me", "Shadowtime"
and "<something> Sister". I can't remember what <something> is - it's
track 5, anyway.

513.10 | Each of us gets older-she too.. | COL01::STANIENDA | | Thu Jan 23 1992 16:08 | 18 |
| I really adore Siouxsie Sioux since many years - she's always good for
any surprise, though the last two LPs were a bad surprise ("Peepshow"
sounded like "Queen" for Heteros, except of "Peek-A-Boo" which is
really great, and "Superstition" is simply boring).
So I've collected lot of Banshees-Records, but it seems to me one is
still missing. My collection starts with "The Scream" and "Join Hands"
both recorded 77/78, but as I far I can remember their first success
was "Hongkong Gardens" (which even hit the UK Top Ten in 77). Is there
any LP (probably not released in Germany?) containing this song?
During their "Superstition"-Tour last autumn the German Gigs were
cancelled because Siouxsie caught a cold - or something like that.
Does anybody know if there will be another European Tour in 92?
Punx not dead - but it starts smelling a bit strong

afterwards.

I thought "Hong Kong Garden" was on "the Scream", I must be
wrong. Anyway there was a "Singles" album that contains it and
other early hits, the best being "Love in a Void" (not available
on any other album). This album was out in about 1983 I think,
and was re-released on CD in later years.

| Found it this weekend in a Cologne Record Shop. Its called "Once upon
a time" (real good stuff, though I don't know what's so mysterious
about a staircase).
Thanxalot,
